The Godzilla Melee Remastered unlock system lets you decide whether to earn monsters, arenas or gallery items first. Atari confirms the improved system for Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered, which arrives on 3 November 2026.

The rewards still have to be earned. It’s the order you can choose, not a promise that everything is available as soon as you start. With 12 kaiju and eight battle locations, the change should be handy for anyone who has a favourite monster or arena in mind.

Atari names three kinds of content in the new system: playable monsters, locations and gallery collectibles. You can work towards them in whichever order you prefer. The publisher hasn’t shown the full selection menu or the precise conditions for earning each reward.

Unlock categoryWhat it covers

The Godzilla Melee Remastered unlock system is about that freedom of choice. It doesn’t establish how many characters begin locked or whether earning a specific item requires battles, campaign completions or some other progress.

Can you choose which kaiju to unlock?

The full roster includes 12 monsters with different melee attacks, energy blasts and Rage Mode strikes. Monsters are one of the selectable reward types, but Atari hasn’t published a starting roster or individual unlock requirements. A claim that King Ghidorah needs a set number of wins would be guesswork.

If you’re mainly interested in playing a particular fighter, focus on monster rewards when you get the chance. Our 12-monster roster guide covers who’s in the game, while the precise requirements will have to be checked in the released version.

What about arenas and day/night variations?

The game has eight locations, including recreated cities, Monster Island and the alien Mothership. They each have day and night variations, but Atari hasn’t said whether the two versions of a location are unlocked separately. Eight locations should not be described as 16 individual unlocks.

These aren’t just backgrounds. Buildings and landmarks can be picked up or used during a brawl, so another arena can make fights feel different. The Godzilla Melee Remastered unlock system gives players who enjoy varied battlefields a reason to put locations first.

What do gallery items include?

Gallery rewards are a third collectible category. The publisher hasn’t released the full gallery contents or stated that completing it awards a secret character. Rage Mode attacks are part of each monster’s moveset, not something confirmed as a gallery purchase.

If collecting interests you more than another stage, there’s no need to put the gallery off until the end. Choosing your preferred category is the main point of the system.

Will finishing single-player campaigns unlock monsters?

Atari confirms additional single-player campaigns for each kaiju, but hasn’t tied a particular campaign to an individual monster or arena reward. It also hasn’t supplied match-count requirements, currency prices or button-by-button steps for choosing rewards.

That matters because the Godzilla Melee Remastered unlock system is an improvement over the 2002 game’s progression. An older cheat code or unlock walkthrough is not proof that the remaster uses the same requirements.

Which unlocks should you pick first?

I’d go for my favourite monster if I planned to play against friends. More arenas make sense if you’re happy with the starting fighters, while gallery items suit players who enjoy collecting. That’s a personal choice, not a confirmed fastest route through the game.

The Godzilla Melee Remastered unlock system will be available when the remaster releases on 3 November. For the rest of the launch details, see our release date guide and multiplayer breakdown. Nintendo lists four local players on one Switch 2 and two online, which are separate from unlock requirements.
