Metaphor ReFantazio Switch 2 launches on 12 November 2026. It’s a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 release of ATLUS’s fantasy RPG, available digitally and as a physical game-key card. That physical card does not contain the full game: you need to download the game data before playing.
Nintendo’s US listing estimates 62.1 GB, while the UK product page currently displays 81.0 MB. Those storefront figures differ sharply, so check the space requirement for your actual purchase. Digital editions also offer costumes, soundtracks, books and a strategy guide.
Metaphor ReFantazio Switch 2 release date and supported platforms
SEGA and ATLUS confirm Thursday 12 November 2026 for the Switch 2 version. Nintendo lists it as Nintendo Switch 2 software, not an original Nintendo Switch release. The RPG originally came out on other platforms in October 2024, including PlayStation, Xbox and PC.
This version supports one player in TV, tabletop and handheld modes. ATLUS lists English and Japanese voices, with subtitles including English, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and several Asian languages. Nintendo also lists cloud save support within its own platform, which does not establish cross-platform saves with PC, PlayStation or Xbox.
Is the physical Switch 2 edition a real cartridge?
The physical Metaphor ReFantazio Switch 2 version is a game-key card. ATLUS explicitly says only game-key cards are available for the Switch 2 physical Standard Edition. It comes in a physical package, but the full adventure is not stored on the card.
- Insert the game-key card into your Nintendo Switch 2.
- Connect to the internet and download the full game data.
- Make sure there is sufficient internal or microSD Express storage available.
- After installation, leave the card inserted when launching the game.

If you’re buying physical to avoid downloading a large game, the game-key version doesn’t offer that benefit. Physical Standard, digital Standard and special editions
Both Standard formats include the complete game. The Atlus 35th Digital Anniversary Edition adds digital books and soundtracks, eight costume/BGM sets and access to the 55-page Essential Digital Strategy Guide, which Nintendo lists as free for Anniversary Edition owners.
Those sets include outfits based on Persona 5’s Shujin Academy, Persona 4’s Yasogami High School, Persona 3’s Gekkoukan High School, Persona 2’s Seven Sisters, St. Hermelin, Jouin High School, Samurai Garb and Etrian Odyssey classes.
The separate Anniversary Upgrade has the extras but not the base game. Nintendo’s US Guidebook Edition includes the game, a 55-page digital strategy guide, artbook, soundtrack and Shujin Academy and Jouin High costume/BGM sets. What do you actually do in Metaphor: ReFantazio?
Set in the United Kingdom of Euchronia, the story follows a protagonist who enters a royal tournament amid political turmoil. You’ll travel between towns and dungeons, build friendships and develop your party’s powers through the Archetype system. Decisions about how to spend each in-game day are part of the adventure.
Combat combines fast encounters with weaker enemies in the overworld and more tactical turn-based battles. This is a single-player RPG, not an online multiplayer version or a separate Switch-exclusive story expansion.
Metaphor ReFantazio Switch 2 preorder items and buying advice
ATLUS lists two early-purchase packs: the Archetype EXP Chest Set and the Adventurer’s Journey Pack. They contain experience items, currency and recovery supplies. The official ATLUS Asia digital preorder deadline is 11 November at 10:59pm GMT+8, or 2:59pm GMT, but that is not a verified UK eShop cutoff.
For physical copies, ATLUS says qualifying bonuses are available while stocks last in its covered region. The preorder rewards guide lists the exact contents and explains the separate regional rules. Check the UK storefront or your retailer for the offer actually attached to your order.
