Petal Runner demo is free on Nintendo Switch 2. The new Switch 2 trial arrived on 28 October 2026 following Nintendo’s Indie World presentation, ahead of the full game launching on 8 March 2027.

The game follows Cali and Kira, motorcycle couriers who deliver digital pets around a vibrant pixel-art city. The trial gives you a chance to see the look and feel of their world before buying the finished adventure.

How to download the Petal Runner demo on Switch 2

  1. Open Nintendo eShop from the Nintendo Switch 2 HOME Menu.
  2. Sign into a Nintendo Account and search for Petal Runner.
  3. Open the Nintendo Switch 2 game’s official listing.
  4. Select the available free demo option rather than purchasing or wishlisting the full game.
  5. Confirm the download, then launch the installed trial from the HOME Menu.

Nintendo’s UK game listing has a Demo available option. Search Petal Runner in Switch 2 eShop and select the trial. A separate PC demo was released earlier in 2026, so October marked the console trial’s arrival.

Once you’ve downloaded the Petal Runner demo, open it from the HOME Menu. It’s separate from the complete game due in March, with no purchase necessary to play the trial.

Is the Petal Runner demo free to play?

Yes, it’s free. You need an internet connection and a Nintendo Account for the eShop download, but no paid Nintendo Switch Online membership just to install and play the demo.

The Switch 2 game supports one player in TV, tabletop and handheld mode. Cali’s companion Kira is part of the story rather than a second player in a co-op mode.

You can wishlist the full game while exploring the Petal Runner demo. That helps you find its listing closer to release, but wishlisting a title isn’t the same as preordering or buying it.

What is Petal Runner actually about?

Cali and Kira aim to become Petal Runners: couriers who deliver and install the latest digital pets. Their work takes them by motorcycle through city streets, meeting people whose stories are at the heart of this RPG.

Nintendo describes four city districts in the complete game, alongside minigames, side quests and digital pets. A mystery involving the HanaPets corporation runs beneath its colourful everyday life.

That mystery means the full game includes some stranger assignments, from ghost hunts to heists and missing-person stories. Try the Petal Runner demo for the introduction to this world; its content is separate from the features advertised for the full game.

Take a little time to look around, speak with characters and get used to Cali and Kira’s motorcycle travel. The detailed pixel art and the people you meet are a big part of Petal Runner’s appeal.

How much storage does the Petal Runner demo need?

The approximately 500 MB estimate belongs to the full-game listing, not necessarily the Switch 2 trial. Check the demo’s download screen for its current storage requirement.

If eShop doesn’t show the trial, confirm you’re on the Nintendo Switch 2 listing, signed into your Nintendo Account and have sufficient free storage for the download.

Does the Petal Runner demo carry progress into the full game?

There is no confirmed Switch 2 demo save-transfer promise in the publisher’s announcement. If you plan to buy the finished game, check its launch options before depending on a demo save being carried over.

Our Petal Runner release date guide covers the story, supported console and March launch. The Petal Runner demo lets you explore the tone and delivery premise ahead of buying the complete adventure.

Is Petal Runner demo on the original Nintendo Switch?

Petal Runner is a Switch 2 console exclusive, while also coming to PC. The Nintendo Switch 2 trial is the version to look for on Nintendo eShop; it’s not listed as an original Switch release.

If a colourful delivery RPG with a surprising story sounds appealing, the Petal Runner demo is the easiest way to give it a go before the 8 March launch.
