Minecraft RTX Remix Requirements start with a GeForce RTX 30 Series or newer graphics card, NVIDIA driver 616.92 or later and Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1. The free public beta runs on Windows 10 or 11 and works with either Prism Launcher or the official Microsoft Minecraft Launcher.
This is a very specific hardware and game-version combination. It isn’t the same as Minecraft Bedrock ray tracing, and the fact that a PC can run ordinary Java shaders does not mean it qualifies for this NVIDIA mod. Here’s the supported GPU list, Windows requirements, memory recommendation and the answers for popular RTX cards.
Minecraft RTX Remix Requirements: Supported GPUs and Drivers

| Requirement | NVIDIA specification |
|---|---|
| Game | Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1 |
| Operating system | Windows 10 or 11, x64 or ARM64 |
| Supported GeForce cards | RTX 30, RTX 40 or RTX 50 Series |
| GeForce driver | 616.92 WHQL or newer |
| RTX Spark driver | 621.01 WHQL or newer |
| System memory | 16 GB recommended |
| Disk space | About 5 GB during install, around 3 GB afterwards |
| Java runtime | Java 21, installed by setup |
| Account | Microsoft account owning Minecraft Java |
| Network | Internet needed during installation |
The RTX Remix Requirements start with the RTX 30 Series. A desktop RTX 3060 or 4060 qualifies by generation, as does an RTX 5060. A GeForce RTX 2060, despite its RTX branding, is outside the official beta support list. The published requirements do not include AMD Radeon or Intel Arc GPUs.
The RTX Remix Requirements set the minimum GeForce driver at 616.92 WHQL. NVIDIA lists 621.01 WHQL for RTX Spark on Windows ARM64. Don’t apply the Spark driver number to every desktop RTX card. Download driver updates from the official NVIDIA app or its driver page, not third-party download sites.
Minecraft RTX Remix Requirements: Windows, RAM and Storage
The RTX Remix Requirements cover Windows 10 and Windows 11, with x64 and ARM64 versions supported on the appropriate hardware. NVIDIA recommends 16 GB of system RAM but does not publish a separate minimum VRAM amount or a required CPU model for this beta. The recommendation is for system memory, not a claim that 16 GB of graphics memory is necessary.
Allow approximately 5 GB free while installing. The archive, Java runtime, Minecraft files and unpacked RTX runtime all occupy space during setup; roughly 3 GB remains afterwards. An internet connection is needed while the installer obtains Java, Fabric and launcher components.
Laptop RTX graphics can work when they fall within the supported generations. If the game uses integrated graphics instead of the GeForce GPU, open Windows Settings → Display → Graphics, add Minecraft’s javaw.exe, set it to High performance and restart the game. That resolves a GPU-selection problem, not a missing driver.
Minecraft RTX Remix Requirements: Java Version and Launchers

The supported game build is exactly Minecraft Java 1.21.1. Selecting 1.21.2, 1.22 or a Bedrock installation is not the same thing, even when those versions share familiar blocks. NVIDIA’s installer creates a specifically configured 1.21.1 profile for the RTX renderer.
For most players, run NVIDIA’s install.bat from an extracted release ZIP. The installer supplies Java 21, Fabric and the runtime. A manual Fabric installation needs Java 21, Fabric Loader 0.16.5+ and Fabric API 0.116.10+1.21.1 or newer, alongside the mod JAR.
Prism Launcher and Microsoft Launcher are both supported. Prism puts the mod into a separate instance with its own saves, making it easier to test the renderer without touching existing worlds. The official Minecraft Launcher can use a shared .minecraft folder, so copying valuable saves before testing is the better choice.
RTX Remix Requirements for RTX 3060, 4060, 5060 and 2060
An RTX 3060, RTX 4060 or RTX 5060 meets NVIDIA’s GPU-generation requirement. With a compatible Windows installation, driver and Java 1.21.1 profile, all three qualify for the beta. Performance will differ with resolution, render distance and world complexity.
The RTX 2060 is a 20 Series card and is not on NVIDIA’s official compatibility list for this beta. Minecraft RTX Remix Requirements also exclude Bedrock as the target game, and native Minecraft Bedrock RTX is a different renderer. Use the official Java 1.21.1 profile to check compatibility.
After installing, enter a world and run /rtx status to check the renderer. Look for Renderer Initialized: true and SDK Available: true. Those checks confirm the runtime started, while Enabled (master) tells you whether path tracing is switched on.
