RTX Remix Uninstall uses the same install.bat utility that installs NVIDIA’s Minecraft Java path-tracing beta. The normal process removes the mod and runtime without wiping your worlds. But optional Prism cleanup can delete an entire instance, including every save stored inside it.
The same installer upgrades the beta while keeping your launcher, worlds and user settings. Before either change, copy important saves outside the game folder. Here’s how to handle both options without deleting your builds.
RTX Remix Uninstall and Upgrade: Choose the Correct Installer Option

- Download the newer archive from NVIDIA’s RTX Remix for Minecraft GitHub Releases page.
- Extract the complete archive into a folder and run
install.batas a normal Windows user. - Select Upgrade when the installer detects the installed version.
- Allow the update to finish, then launch the existing NVIDIA RTX Remix profile.
- Open a world and check
/rtx statusfor Renderer Initialized: true and SDK Available: true.
The Upgrade operation preserves existing worlds, RTX settings and customised lighting profiles. It also adds newly supplied lighting files alongside your own rather than overwriting your modifications. If you want to switch launchers instead, choose Install and select the new launcher rather than trying to make Upgrade change the existing one.
An RTX mod added manually to a Fabric instance isn’t tracked by this installer. Replace the mod JAR yourself when updating that setup, retaining Java 21 and the matching Fabric dependencies.
RTX Remix Uninstall: Remove the Mod Safely
- Open the extracted NVIDIA release folder and start
install.bat. - Choose Uninstall from its menu.
- Let the installer remove the RTX mod, Fabric API components, runtime and
rtx.conf. - At optional cleanup prompts, keep the Prism instance and portable launcher if they contain saves you haven’t backed up.
- After uninstalling, open a normal Java Edition profile to play without RTX Remix.
The basic RTX Remix Uninstall procedure leaves worlds and your authored lighting profiles alone. It also leaves user-owned settings under config\rtxremix.json and certain custom files in rtx-remix and your world folders. Those are personal data, not proof the removal failed.
The dangerous option is Prism instance or portable launcher cleanup. NVIDIA explicitly says these optional actions delete everything inside their folders. That includes world saves, lighting profiles and other files you’ve made there. Copy the entire saves folder somewhere else before choosing cleanup.
RTX Remix Uninstall: Back Up Your Minecraft Worlds

With Microsoft Launcher, your saves are normally in %APPDATA%\.minecraft\saves\. The RTX installation shares that directory with regular Java Edition. Copy the world folders to a separate place before removing the mod or experimenting with profiles.
For NVIDIA’s portable Prism Launcher, open %LOCALAPPDATA%\RtxRemixMinecraft\PrismLauncher\instances\NVIDIA RTX Remix for Minecraft\.minecraft\saves\. Existing Prism installs may keep their instances under %APPDATA%\PrismLauncher\instances\. Opening the specific instance folder through Prism is the easiest way to confirm the right location.
A Minecraft world folder contains its level.dat and region files alongside other world data. Copy the entire folder rather than only the visible world name. Keep the backup outside any Prism directory you’re planning to remove.
RTX Remix Uninstall: What Happens to Resource Packs?
Custom resource packs and worlds are separate from the core RTX mod files. If you no longer want the optional NVIDIA RTX Materials Pack, deselect it under Options → Resource Packs and remove its ZIP from the relevant resourcepacks folder. You don’t need to delete the BlockWorks demo world to stop using the renderer.
NVIDIA preserves personal lighting profiles and world-specific RTX data during a normal uninstall. Keep those files if you plan to reinstall later; deleting them is a separate manual choice.
Can You Reinstall After RTX Remix Uninstall?
Yes. Download the NVIDIA release archive, extract it and run the installer as usual. You can create a clean Prism instance or reinstall the Microsoft Launcher profile. Use a supported GeForce RTX GPU and the appropriate current driver for the beta.
An RTX Remix Uninstall should never involve wiping every Minecraft save or reinstalling Windows. The safe distinction is between removing the RTX files and removing an entire Prism instance. Keep that instance unless its worlds have been backed up and you deliberately want everything inside it deleted.
