FFXIV Magitek Scorpion is the new FFVII Remake collaboration mount in Final Fantasy XIV. Buy the Magitek Scorpion Identification Key for 430 MGC at the Keybound Brawler MGC Trader, located in Keybound Square (X:6.2, Y:6.0). Use the key to register the mount to your character.
The event started on 28 October 2026 and runs until Patch 8.0. You need to unlock Keybound Brawler and earn its event credits before making the purchase. Here’s how to reach the shop, learn the mount and fix the common problem of being able to buy it before mount riding has unlocked.
How to unlock the FFXIV Magitek Scorpion mount

Reach level 15 and complete the envoy quest for your starting city. Visit the Well-Heeled Youth at Ul’dah, Steps of Nald (X:9.6, Y:9.0) and finish It Could Happen to You. This opens the Manderville Gold Saucer and its airship route.
At the Gold Saucer, speak with the Catlike Mammet at X:5.4, Y:7.0 and complete Keyward Bound. This opens the four-player typing attraction. A hardware keyboard is required; the game doesn’t accept controller or on-screen keyboard input for typing the attack words.
Play to earn Manderville Gold Saucer Credits (MGC). Once you have 430, head to Keybound Square X:6.2, Y:6.0, open the MGC Trader’s shop and purchase the Magitek Scorpion Identification Key. Completing a match doesn’t automatically award the mount: the FFXIV Magitek Scorpion is purchased from the event trader.
How much is the FFXIV Magitek Scorpion?
The cost is 430 MGC. That’s less than either complete FFVII-inspired outfit: the five Tifa pieces total 1,570 MGC and the six Barret pieces total 1,760. If the Scorpion is the only reward you want, your purchase target is simply 430 MGC.
MGC and MGP are different currencies. You can’t spend regular Manderville Gold Saucer Points at the MGC Trader, even if you have saved a large balance from Triple Triad or chocobo racing. See our MGC vs MGP guide for the distinction.
Where to buy the FFXIV Magitek Scorpion Identification Key
The official item name is Magitek Scorpion Identification Key. It’s listed by the MGC Trader at X:6.2, Y:6.0 within Keybound Square. That is not the same as a regular Gold Saucer prize counter, so use the Keybound Square map rather than looking for a general mount shop.
After paying, open your inventory and use the Identification Key. That unlocks the mount in your Mount Guide. Select it there to summon the Scorpion once normal mount travel is unlocked on your character. You don’t need a matching Tifa or Barret costume for the mount to work.
Why can’t I ride the FFXIV Magitek Scorpion?
Keybound Brawler is available at level 15, but general mount riding comes later. FFXIV requires you to reach level 20 in the main scenario, join a Grand Company and complete My Little Chocobo before you can summon mounts. You can buy this event key before finishing that standard unlock.
First check whether you’ve used the key from your bag. If the mount appears in your Mount Guide but you still can’t summon it, continue the main story and finish My Little Chocobo. Purchasing another FFXIV Magitek Scorpion key won’t replace that requirement.
When does the FFXIV Magitek Scorpion leave the event?
The FFVII Remake collaboration lasts until Patch 8.0. Square Enix states that MGC can only be earned and exchanged during this event period. Buy the Identification Key while the shop is available, then use it to register the mount.
For every other prize, our complete shop list gives the costs. The FFXIV Magitek Scorpion route is straightforward: unlock Keyward Bound, play with a keyboard, earn 430 MGC and use the Identification Key from the trader.
