Primus Atalact Build: Best Gear, Masteries and Should You Keep Him?

Primus Atalact Build should focus on Defence, Accuracy and Speed. Primus Atalact is a Void Epic Defence Champion from the Lizardmen, with an AoE Provoke, Counterattack, a team Increase DEF buff and an ally attack that brings three teammates into the fight. He is well suited to Faction Wars and PvE wave control, and his kit gives him a useful job in Fire Knight teams.

There’s another decision to make before you spend any Epic tomes: Primus is the Champion you need four copies of to fuse Orynyx Mindcrawler. Those copies are consumed. If you’re chasing the Legendary, think about that before spending resources on a Champion you won’t keep.

Primus Atalact Build: best sets and stat priorities

For a general Primus Atalact Build, start with Perception and Speed. Accuracy helps land his Provoke and Stun, while Speed brings his abilities around sooner. Build enough Defence and HP to withstand the enemies he’ll draw. His damage scales with Defence, not Attack.

UseGood setsPriority
Faction WarsPerception, Speed, ReflexProvoke and regular turns
Fire KnightPerception, RelentlessIncrease DEF and ally attacks
ArenaPinpoint, Feral, StoneskinAccuracy and first-turn survival
Early accountsBest mixed piecesUseful stats over weak set bonuses

Go for Speed boots, DEF% or HP% gloves, and a chest with DEF%, HP% or Accuracy depending on your existing stats. An Accuracy banner is a good option when you keep seeing resisted Provokes. Don’t sacrifice useful substats to finish a set that looks better on paper.

A Primus Atalact Build intended for Faction Wars can lean further into Defence. His aura adds 35% ally DEF in that mode. For Arena, make sure he survives the first enemy rotation and has enough Accuracy to actually lock down its damage dealers.

Primus Atalact Build: Skills and book priority

Primus’ Promise (A1): Attacks one target with a 25% chance to Stun for one turn and gives Perfect Veil to the ally with the lowest Defence. Fully booking increases the Stun chance to 40%.

Steadfastly Loyal (A2): Attacks everyone with a 75% base chance to Provoke them for one turn, then gives Primus Counterattack for two turns. Books raise that chance to 100%, before Accuracy and enemy Resistance are considered, and cut the cooldown from four turns to three. This is the priority skill for a Primus Atalact Build.

Phalanx of Scales (A3): Gives all allies a 60% Increase DEF buff for two turns and calls three random allies to attack one target. Books reduce the cooldown from six turns to four, making this a strong second priority.

Duty Until Death: The passive steals one random buff from the enemy whenever Primus counterattacks. Combined with A2, this helps him punish enemies who have been forced to attack him. It doesn’t steal a buff on every normal attack.

Fully booking Primus costs 11 Epic tomes: four upgrades on A1, five on A2 and two on A3. Prioritise the A2 Provoke chance and cooldown, then A3’s cooldown. Don’t book one of the four Primus copies you’re about to consume for Orynyx unless you have a specific reason.

Primus Atalact Build: best Masteries and Blessing

Use Defence and Support trees. In Defence, look at Defiant, Improved Parry, Rejuvenation, Resurgent, Wisdom of Battle, Delay Death and Retribution. In Support, choices such as Pinpoint Accuracy, Charged Focus, Swarm Smiter, Cycle of Magic, Lore of Steel, Lasting Gifts and Master Hexer build towards the tier-six Eagle-Eye. That final Accuracy boost suits his Provoke role.

Cruelty is a possible Blessing in teams that benefit from Defence reduction. It isn’t essential to make the Primus Atalact Build useful, particularly if a teammate already covers that effect. Fix the gear and book priorities before worrying about an ideal high-Awakening setup.

Where is the Primus Atalact Build actually good?

In Faction Wars, his Lizardmen DEF aura, Provoke and Counterattack can help control hard waves. In Fire Knight, A3’s three additional ally attacks are useful against the shield when the rest of your team is suited to the fight. He can also help with Doom Tower waves that are susceptible to Provoke or Stun.

Against bosses immune to those effects, Primus loses much of his control value. His Increase DEF and ally attacks still do something, but you shouldn’t build a Primus Atalact Build around permanently locking down a boss that can’t be Provoked.

Should you keep Primus Atalact or fuse Orynyx?

You need four Primus Atalact copies to fuse Orynyx, each costing 100 fragments. The full event offers 475 fragments. That’s enough for four, with 75 left over, but not enough for a fifth. If you complete the Legendary fusion using the event’s four Epics, those four copies are consumed.

If you want Orynyx, keep your four Primus copies available and raise each to Rank 5, Level 50 with full Ascension. The Primus Atalact Build is for a copy you plan to keep: the 475 event fragments alone can’t give you both Orynyx and a fifth Primus. You’d need a separately obtained copy, perhaps from a Void Shard, and there’s no guarantee of pulling one.

If you’re no longer able to finish the fusion, Primus is a worthwhile Epic to consider building for your Lizardmen and wave-control teams. If you can finish Orynyx, check the full fusion calendar and the remaining-fragment calculation before committing resources to a copy you’ll lose.

If you’re keeping him, start with Accuracy, Speed and a strong defensive base. That gives the Primus Atalact Build what it actually needs: reliable crowd control and the ability to withstand the counterattacks its own kit encourages.
