Fortnite Chapter 5 map evolution shows the story of the island across every original season of Chapter 5. Fortnite rarely keeps its terrain unchanged for long, and this chapter is no exception: new landmarks, seasonal themes and story events gradually turned the map into something that players from its opening season might barely recognise.
Open the galleries below to see original launch-version maps where verified images are available. The dates and patch numbers under each image help distinguish the map at the beginning of a season from a later update. Fortnite Chapter 5 map evolution: Every season map
Each expandable card explains what made that season different. Where a historical image has been verified and imported into The Click, it appears directly inside the card so you can see it without leaving the site.
Season 1: Underground

A train circled the island, passing towns such as Pleasant Piazza and Ritzy Riviera.
Season 2: Myths & Mortals

Mount Olympus and the Underworld brought a huge Greek mythology makeover.
Season 3: Wrecked

A wasteland, Nitrodrome and vehicle-focused landmarks reshaped the southern part of the map.
Season 4: Absolute Doom

Castle Doom and other Marvel-related areas arrived as Doctor Doom returned.
Fortnite Chapter 2 Remix: Before and after map comparison
Remix brought Apollo back for a short season, then continued changing the returning island. The two maps show the opening layout and a later update. They’re not maps from the original Chapter 2 run, so they belong between Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 in the complete history.
Chapter 2 Remix (2024): Apollo revisited
The Remix mini-season revisited Chapter 2 after Absolute Doom. Its v32.00 island was inspired by Apollo’s earlier seasons, but Remix had its own changes and collaborations. It belongs after Chapter 5 Season 4 in the chronology, not among Chapter 2’s original 2019–2021 seasons.

How Fortnite Chapter 5 changed the Battle Royale island
Chapter 5’s original map featured a train, scenic towns and snowy hills. The map kept the same broad foundations but received striking new themed regions, from Greek mythological landmarks to the Wasteland and Doctor Doom’s territory.
The pictures above are labelled by season-opening patch. For example, a mid-season location might be absent from the launch image even though it was an important part of the season. Check the version number when comparing these maps to memories or screenshots from later updates.
Looking at Fortnite Chapter 5 map evolution across these four snapshots, you can follow the railway, the arrival of Mount Olympus, the Wasteland and Doctor Doom’s takeover without confusing their release dates.
Fortnite Chapter 5 map evolution: What changed between seasons?
The railway was the defining feature when Chapter 5 arrived. Season 2 then added Mount Olympus and the Underworld, before Wrecked turned a large area into a vehicle-focused wasteland. Castle Doom and new Marvel landmarks shifted the mood again in Season 4.
From the Underground railway to Greek mythology
Chapter 5 began with one of Fortnite’s more recognisable transport ideas: a train travelling around the island. The first season mixed villages, lavish estates and mountainous routes, with Pleasant Piazza, Ritzy Riviera and other settlements connected by roads and rails. Travelling around the map felt different from chapters that relied mainly on vehicles and scattered mobility items.
Season 2 brought the gods into the picture. Mount Olympus appeared in the southeast, while the Underworld transformed another part of the island. Their architecture and terrain were immediately distinctive, with mythological monuments and new combat areas.
Wrecked, the Nitrodrome and Doctor Doom
Season 3’s Wasteland was another dramatic alteration. Sand, fortifications, the Nitrodrome and new vehicle-focused spaces made it feel like a different game in places. The season rewarded fast movement and vehicles in areas where the previous two seasons had felt quite different.
Season 4 then leaned into Marvel, with Castle Doom, Doomstadt and the Raft. These POIs replaced other areas and added a new story about Doctor Doom. Comparing v28.00 with v31.00 illustrates just how much Chapter 5 changed during its four numbered seasons. Chapter 2 Remix later revisited an older island, so it should not be confused with these original Chapter 5 maps.
From here you can continue through Chapter 6’s map gallery or return to the all-chapters Fortnite map hub.
Fortnite Chapter 5 map evolution: Special-season map comparisons
Fortnite Chapter 5 map evolution also needs to account for the special island that followed. Remix returned to Apollo after Chapter 5’s numbered seasons, so its map should be compared with the original Chapter 2 galleries, not mistaken for a fifth season on the Underground island.
