Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 map shows the island during underground and the new island. Chapter 5 opened with an entirely new Battle Royale island. Its Mediterranean-style towns, railway, estates and mountainous surroundings looked very different from Chapter 4’s mixture of medieval, jungle and futuristic regions.

Below is the original map from v28.00, followed by the major new locations and a comparison with the preceding season. Since Fortnite changed its island during seasons as well as between them, this is a snapshot from launch rather than a composite of later updates.

Pleasant Piazza, Ritzy Riviera, Rebel’s Roost, Snooty Steppes and Grand Glacier were among its important destinations. The train travelled around the map, giving players a moving route between parts of the island.

The railway was the biggest travel-related visual feature. Players could board the train and fight around it, while the station and track network brought a new way to think about movement between POIs.

Chapter 4’s island disappeared at the transition. The new Chapter 5 map had its own rail network, towns and mountain routes rather than retaining Mega City or the jungle.

What made the Chapter 5 island feel new?

The original Chapter 5 season did more than change the named landing spots. The railway ran across a sizeable part of the island and connected a number of the regions, giving players a moving train to follow or board. The map also mixed coastal settlements, lavish estates and snowy mountains. Those differences made the terrain more varied than one would expect from looking only at the large named POIs.

The Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 map is particularly useful for showing the island before three major seasonal transformations. Mount Olympus had not yet arrived, the Nitrodrome and Wasteland were absent, and Doctor Doom’s later properties were still months away.

Season 2 brought Mount Olympus and the Underworld, turning two regions into lands associated with Greek mythology.
