Fortnite Chapter 4 map evolution shows the story of the island across every original season of Chapter 4. Fortnite rarely keeps its terrain unchanged for long, and this chapter is no exception: new landmarks, seasonal themes and story events gradually turned the map into something that players from its opening season might barely recognise.

Open the galleries below to see original launch-version maps where verified images are available. The dates and patch numbers under each image help distinguish the map at the beginning of a season from a later update. Fortnite Chapter 4 map evolution: How the island changed

The medieval island that welcomed players at the beginning looked little like the island’s final version. Mega City grew around the southeast, the jungle opened deep in the centre, and Kado Thorne’s estates became new targets in the last season.

The pictures above are labelled by season-opening patch. For example, a mid-season location might be absent from the launch image even though it was an important part of the season. Check the version number when comparing these maps to memories or screenshots from later updates.

Fortnite Chapter 4 map evolution: What changed between seasons?

Season 2 brought the most dramatic skyline change with Mega City and the southeast’s Japanese-inspired biome. Then Season 3 opened a jungle in the centre of the island, giving players deep valleys and treetop pathways in areas that had looked completely different months earlier.

The Citadel, Mega City and the jungle

Chapter 4 first showed players a fragmented new island, with medieval architecture at The Citadel and Anvil Square. The snowy portions contrasted with its greener countryside. Although there were plenty of unfamiliar places to learn, the layout still made it easy to see where the island’s different environments met.

Season 2 was far more futuristic. Mega City rose in the southeast, with tall buildings, neon signage and grind rails. Nearby Japanese-inspired locations, including Steamy Springs and Kenjutsu Crossing, changed the flavour of the region without replacing the entire island.

Then Season 3 opened an enormous jungle through the middle of the map. Players could descend into the jungle, travel through vines and move across a dense canopy. It made the terrain feel vertically layered in a way that the medieval island had not.

How Last Resort changed Chapter 4

Season 4 shifted attention toward Kado Thorne and his lavish estates. Eclipsed Estate, Relentless Retreat and Sanguine Suites became prominent new locations, built around the season’s heist theme. Their layout mattered because players were encouraged to break into the properties rather than simply land nearby and loot ordinary houses.

Chapter 4 ended with those changes before Fortnite revisited the first island in its OG season. This gallery focuses on the four numbered Chapter 4 seasons, which are a separate island history from that short return to Chapter 1.

From here you can continue through Chapter 5’s map gallery or return to the all-chapters Fortnite map hub.

Fortnite Chapter 4 map evolution: Special-season map comparisons

Fortnite Chapter 4 map evolution also needs to account for the special island that followed. The 2023 OG return is easier to understand beside the island’s original four seasons, because it deliberately revisited older terrain instead of extending the medieval and jungle island.

Fortnite OG (2023): The original island returns

After Chapter 4 Season 4, Fortnite OG returned players to a version of the original Chapter 1 island in November 2023. That is a separate 2023 throwback, not an additional numbered Chapter 4 season. Compare the familiar older towns with Chapter 4’s modern island above.
