ESO Antiquity Leads are clues that let you track down buried treasures in The Elder Scrolls Online. You can find leads through bosses, loot containers, gathering, quests and other activities, depending on the particular treasure. Getting a lead doesn’t immediately give you the item. You still need to scry it, locate the dig mound and complete the excavation.

If you’re hunting a Mythic item, each fragment has its own lead source and excavation zone. The Antiquities Journal tracks which leads you’ve collected and which antiquities you’ve already excavated, so check it before heading back to farm another drop.

How to find ESO Antiquity leads

Some green leads are available when you first visit a zone, while rarer leads may drop from specific bosses, treasure chests or other activities. There is no universal farming route for every Mythic fragment. Find the exact source for the piece you need first, then travel to its associated activity. Remember that random-drop leads aren’t guaranteed from a single kill or chest.

ESO Antiquity Leads: How to scry and excavate them

  1. Open Journal → Antiquities and choose a lead you own.
  2. Check its rarity, skill requirements and excavation zone.
  3. Complete the Scrying puzzle to reveal one or more search areas.
  4. Travel to a highlighted area and use the Antiquarian’s Eye to locate the dig mound.
  5. Complete the Excavation minigame to collect the treasure or fragment.

The Journal distinguishes a lead you’ve acquired from the antiquity you’ve actually completed. If your Mythic fragment isn’t counting, check whether you stopped after Scrying instead of finishing the dig.

Antiquity Leads rarity and Scrying requirements

Green leads can be scryed from level 1, blue leads at level 3 and purple leads at level 5. Master-quality gold leads generally require Scrying level 7 and Antiquarian Insight IV. It’s possible to obtain a rare lead before you’re able to use it, so don’t assume it’s broken when the entry appears locked.

Greymoor and Antiquities are scheduled to become part of the ESO base game on October 19, 2026. That change doesn’t automatically give you access to all other DLC zones. For some Mythics, the lead drops in one area and the excavation happens in another. Check both locations before you start farming.

ESO Antiquity Leads – When do Antiquity Leads expire?

Lead expiry depends on rarity following Update 49. White leads last 30 days, green leads 60 days, blue leads 90 days, purple leads 120 days and gold leads 180 days. ESO Plus doubles each timer, giving gold leads up to 360 days. Your Antiquities Journal shows the remaining time. If an expiring lead runs out, you’ll need to find it again; repeatable starter leads may be reacquired rather than permanently lost.

ESO Antiquity Leads- Tracking Mythic fragments and Antiquity Leads

Most Mythic equipment requires five different excavated fragments. Finding one lead doesn’t unlock the rest, and repeated drops for the same fragment won’t substitute for a missing piece. Track the fragments separately, complete each excavation and check your collection progress in the Journal.

Some Mythics involve multiple DLC zones. You may need one area to obtain the lead and another to dig it up. The Ebon Dwarven Wolf mount is a different Antiquities reward with seventeen fragments, so don’t use the standard five-fragment Mythic checklist for that mount.

Why Antiquity Leads aren’t showing or cannot be scryed

If a lead isn’t listed, double-check that the enemy, container or activity you’re farming actually drops that item. If it appears but can’t be selected, check its rarity and your Antiquarian Insight passive. If you’ve completed Scrying but can’t find the treasure, go to the highlighted area and activate Antiquarian’s Eye from Collections → Tools to locate the dig mound.

Where to start collecting Antiquity Leads

Begin with green and blue treasures in zones you can access. They’ll help raise your Scrying and Excavation ranks while you learn both minigames. Once you meet the requirements for rarer leads, choose the Mythic or cosmetic you want, then work through its exact fragment locations rather than collecting random leads without a goal.
