Pokémon GO Mega Ascension begins on August 31, 2026, kicking off the week-long build-up to Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Mega Finale with daily Mega Raid rotations, increased wild spawns, branching Timed Research and the start of the GO Pass: Mega Finale.

The Pokémon GO Mega Ascension event runs from Monday, August 31 at 10:00 a.m. until Friday, September 4 at 11:59 p.m. local time. Trainers will be able to choose Chespin, Fennekin or Froakie as part of a Mega Evolution-focused journey, while Mega Victreebel, Mega Dragonite, Mega Malamar, Mega Falinks, Mega Skarmory, Mega Starmie and both Mega Raichu forms rotate through raids.

Mega Raids are one of the biggest parts of Pokémon GO Mega Ascension, with different Mega-Evolved Pokémon featured across the five days.

Monday, August 31

The first day features three Mega Pokémon:

  • Mega Victreebel
  • Mega Dragonite
  • Mega Malamar

Tuesday, September 1

  • Mega Falinks

Wednesday, September 2

  • Mega Skarmory

Thursday, September 3

  • Mega Starmie

Friday, September 4

The final day of Pokémon GO Mega Ascension features both Mega Raichu forms:

  • Mega Raichu X
  • Mega Raichu Y

Mega Latias and Mega Latios may also appear in Mega Raids throughout the event.

Pokémon caught after defeating these Mega Raid Bosses can potentially be Shiny where the Shiny is available.

Mega Evolution Special Backgrounds During Mega Ascension

Pokémon caught from Mega Raids during Pokémon GO Mega Ascension may have a Mega Evolution-themed Special Background.

That gives Trainers another reason to raid beyond simply collecting Mega Energy.

The Special Background is not guaranteed on every eligible raid encounter. Pokémon GO states that Pokémon caught from Mega Raids may have the Mega Evolution-themed background.

Players who collect Special Background Pokémon will therefore want to pay attention to each successful Mega Raid encounter throughout the event.

Pokémon GO Mega Ascension Wild Spawns

A selection of Pokémon connected to the event’s Mega Evolution theme will appear more frequently in the wild during Pokémon GO Mega Ascension.

These spawns make the event particularly useful for collecting Candy for several Pokémon associated with the raid rotation.

Chespin, Fennekin and Froakie are especially important because Trainers will choose one of the three Kalos first partner Pokémon for the Mega Finale progression path.

Pokémon GO Mega Ascension Timed Research

Pokémon GO Mega Ascension includes branching Timed Research that lets Trainers choose between:

  • Chespin
  • Fennekin
  • Froakie

Your choice determines the corresponding path you receive in GO Pass: Mega Finale.

The exact individual Timed Research tasks have not yet been published, so there is no confirmed task list to complete in advance.

What is confirmed is that the research acts as the starting point for the wider Mega Finale journey.

Once you complete the branching Timed Research and select your Pokémon, you can continue progressing with that Pokémon through the GO Pass.

Which Pokémon Should You Choose: Chespin, Fennekin or Froakie?

The choice between Chespin, Fennekin and Froakie is more important than an ordinary encounter reward because it determines your corresponding GO Pass: Mega Finale path.

The three routes eventually focus on:

FennekinMega Delphox
FroakieMega Greninja

The free GO Pass track will provide encounters with your chosen Pokémon, Candy, Link Charges and enough Mega Energy to Mega Evolve your selected partner once.

Pokémon GO Mega Ascension Remote Raid Pass Limit

The Remote Raid Pass limit increases during Pokémon GO Mega Ascension.

From August 31 through September 4, Trainers can participate in up to 30 Remote Raids per day.

That is a substantial increase from the standard limit and is particularly useful given the daily Mega Raid rotation.

The limit changes again for the main Mega Finale weekend, when Pokémon GO removes the Remote Raid limit entirely on September 5 and September 6.

What Happens to Normal Raids During Mega Ascension?

The normal seasonal schedule changes during Pokémon GO Mega Ascension and Mega Finale.

Pokémon GO has confirmed that the following seasonal features will not take place during the event period:

  • Daily Discoveries
  • Seasonal Mega Raids
  • Seasonal Five-Star Raids
  • Seasonal Shadow Raids
  • Seasonal Raid Hours
  • Seasonal Spotlight Hours

Instead, the dedicated Mega Ascension and Mega Finale raid schedule takes over from August 31 at 12:01 a.m. until September 6 at 11:59 p.m. local time.

Seasonal Raid Bosses may still appear, but Mega Raids will make up the majority of raids during the Mega Ascension portion of the event.

Pokémon GO Mega Ascension GO Pass

Completing the branching Timed Research leads into GO Pass: Mega Finale, which becomes available from August 31 at 10:00 a.m. local time.

The free track includes rewards such as:

  • Encounters with your chosen Kalos partner
  • Link Charges
  • Candy
  • Mega Energy
  • Enough Mega Energy to Mega Evolve your chosen partner once

A paid GO Pass Deluxe option will also be available with additional rewards including extra Mega Energy, additional Candy and Candy XL from Mega Raids, bonus Mega Raid XP, avatar items and an increased chance of encountering certain Shiny event Pokémon and Mega Raid Bosses.

We will cover the full Pokémon GO Mega Finale GO Pass separately rather than burying all of its rewards inside the Mega Ascension guide.

What Comes After Pokémon GO Mega Ascension?

Pokémon GO Mega Ascension leads directly into Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Mega Finale, which takes place on September 5 and September 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time each day.

Mega Finale introduces the headline Mega Mewtwo battles, rotating habitats, additional bonuses and the culmination of the Chespin, Fennekin or Froakie progression path started during Mega Ascension.

That makes Mega Ascension more than a standalone five-day event. It is effectively the opening phase of the final Pokémon GO Fest 2026 celebration.

Players who want to prepare should decide which Kalos partner they are most interested in, make room for the event’s wild spawns and plan around the daily Mega Raid rotation before Pokémon GO Mega Ascension begins on August 31.
