WoW Talebound currencies are Bound Silver and Ducats, and they do different jobs. Bound Silver is Warband-bound and buys cosmetics, while Ducats are found during tales and converted into resources for upgrades inside the mode.
You can try Talebound in a free PTR demo from 30 October to 1 November 2026 without an active subscription. The full mode is planned for Echoes of the Worldcore, so don’t treat this test as a guarantee that earned currency or cosmetics will carry over.

Bound Silver is for collecting appearances and other cosmetics you can use outside a single run. Ducats support the build you take into the next story, helping you improve after a tough encounter. They aren’t interchangeable, and Blizzard does not describe Ducats as a way to buy the storybook mount.
How to earn Bound Silver and Ducats
Bound Silver comes from Tales of the Storyteller quests, achievements and story progress. Blizzard says you receive it alongside other rewards when you return to Quillgrave after completing a tale. That’s the concrete earning route the publisher has confirmed.
You collect Ducats while exploring the tales and convert them into resources for Talebound progression. Blizzard’s public overview doesn’t give an exact Ducat payout for every boss, story or difficulty, so a fixed rate shouldn’t be treated as fact.
Where to find Nib and the Talebound store
Open the Talebound store from character selection or the Game Menu, or visit Nib in Quillgrave. Bound Silver is the store currency for transmog sets, individual appearances and other cosmetics.
Blizzard’s named rewards include the Shadowbound Storybook mount, Witch Hunter’s Shadow Attire, and the Quillgrave Storyteller’s Lectern and Talebound Shadowtome housing decorations. WoW Talebound currencies and the four Quillgrave specialists
The progression side of WoW Talebound currencies leads to Quillgrave’s specialists. The Arcanist handles potions, draughts and flasks, the Scribe changes talents and abilities, and the Outfitter improves starting health, damage, energy and focus.
The Antiquarian offers passives that change how you approach a run. Those four upgrade paths help explain why Ducats matter, even though they aren’t spent on the cosmetic collection. Our Talebound progression guide covers the full run loop.
Does PTR currency carry over to the full game?
The demo covers Red Hollow and three main tales: Darkhaven, Greenthistle Wood and Greywake’s Expedition. Slayer, Inquisitor and Witch can each play on Normal, Veteran or Heroic. Blizzard has confirmed that the weekend trial doesn’t require an active subscription.
Blizzard hasn’t confirmed that a PTR currency balance, item purchase or other trial progress transfers to the completed mode. The store and currency rules announced for the full release should be kept separate from what a temporary testing build lets you do.
Can solo players earn Bound Silver?

What Warband-bound means for Bound Silver
Blizzard describes Bound Silver as Warband-bound. That’s why it belongs to the wider collection side of Talebound, rather than being another upgrade for the Slayer, Inquisitor or Witch you’re playing. The shop is for appearances and other cosmetics, while the specialists in Quillgrave handle progression within the mode. Blizzard does not describe Ducats as an alternative way to buy cosmetic items from Nib.
What to check after completing a tale
Blizzard says Bound Silver is awarded with other rewards when you return to Quillgrave after completing a story. Finish the tale, return to the hub and check what you’ve earned before opening the store. The October PTR demo is a test, so a currency balance or purchase shown there is not confirmation of a permanent unlock in the eventual Echoes of the Worldcore release.
WoW Talebound currencies: quick answers
Which currency buys cosmetics? Bound Silver. Which currency helps your build? Ducats. Where is Nib? In Quillgrave. Is every currency Warband-bound? Blizzard specifically calls Bound Silver Warband-bound; it doesn’t describe Ducats the same way.
