The Sims 4 Marketplace: How It Works, Moola, Downloads and Missing Content

The Sims 4 Marketplace 1

The Sims 4 Marketplace is EA’s official store for Maker Packs, Kits, Expansion Packs, Game Packs and Stuff Packs. You can open it inside The Sims 4, on the web, or through the EA app on PC and Mac, but what you can actually buy depends on the platform you play on.

The two rules that cause the most confusion are straightforward. Console players can browse the web Marketplace but need to make purchases in-game, while Moola is mainly used for Maker Packs and selected Kits rather than every type of Sims 4 DLC. If something you bought is missing, My Collection and Manage Storage are the first places to check.

How The Sims 4 Marketplace works

The Marketplace can be opened in-game, on the web and through the EA app on PC and Mac.

The Sims 4 Marketplace combines EA-made DLC with community-created Maker Packs in one storefront. EA currently lists five types of content there: Kits, Maker Packs, Expansion Packs, Game Packs and Stuff Packs.

Maker Packs are different from normal mods or Gallery uploads. They are created by people accepted into the Sims Maker Program, then reviewed by The Sims team before being sold through the Marketplace. EA says the review checks that the content is safe, compatible and suitable for the game’s rating.

Inside the game, open The Sims 4 Marketplace from the Marketplace button at the top of the Main Menu. You can also open it while playing by selecting the shopping cart icon in the top-right corner of Live Mode, Build Mode or Create a Sim.

PC and Mac players can also browse and buy through the web Marketplace without opening the game. If you use the EA app, open your Library, select The Sims 4 and use the Add Ons tab to browse the Marketplace catalogue.

Can console players buy Marketplace content on the web?

No. PlayStation and Xbox players can browse The Sims 4 Marketplace on the web, but EA says purchases and downloads need to be made in-game. Your console account also needs to be linked to the correct EA Account.

This is worth checking before buying the same item somewhere else because the web page can still show the content to a console player even though the purchase button is not the correct route for that platform.

What can you buy with Moola?

Moola is the virtual currency used by The Sims 4 Marketplace. In-game on PC, Mac and console, Moola can buy Maker Packs and selected Kits. Expansion Packs, Game Packs and Stuff Packs use real-world currency, and some Kits also need to be bought with real money.

On the web and in the EA app, PC and Mac players can use Moola for Maker Packs. EA says other DLC types on those storefronts use real-world currency. Moola cannot be earned through normal Sims 4 gameplay; it has to be purchased.

Where does purchased Marketplace content go?

If you buy a Maker Pack or Kit with Moola in-game, open The Sims 4 Marketplace and go to My Collection. EA says those purchases are available to download on demand, and you don’t need to restart The Sims 4 before using them once they are installed.

Content bought for real money is added to the platform you use to play. Depending on your download settings, you may still need to install it before the new Build/Buy, CAS or gameplay content appears.

How to download a Maker Pack bought on the web

If you bought a Maker Pack through the web version of The Sims 4 Marketplace, launch The Sims 4, open Marketplace from the Main Menu and select My Collection → Maker Packs.

Find the pack you bought. A grey Not Installed label means the content is attached to your account but is not installed on the device yet. Open the pack’s product page and select Download.

How to download Marketplace content from the EA app

After an EA app purchase, the product page should offer Download or Redeem. You can also install it later through EA app Library → The Sims 4 → Overview → Manage → Manage add-ons.

That route is useful if a purchase appears in your account but never downloaded automatically. It separates an ownership problem from a simple installation problem.

The Sims 4 Marketplace content missing: what to check

If content is missing from The Sims 4 Marketplace, start in My Collection and select Manage Storage to see whether the pack is installed. For Maker Packs, you can also open Build Mode or Create a Sim and use the Maker Packs filter to search for the items directly.

EA also recommends going online if you made a recent purchase while the game is offline, restarting the PC, Mac or console, signing out and back into the platform account, and checking that you are using the correct EA Account. For real-money purchases, check EA Account Order History to confirm the transaction completed.

Does Marketplace replace the Gallery or mods?

No. The Sims 4 Marketplace does not replace the Gallery. The Gallery remains the place for players to share Sims, lots and rooms, while Marketplace sells downloadable content and Maker Packs.

PC and Mac players can also continue using normal mods and custom content. Marketplace Maker Packs are reviewed and distributed through EA, but EA’s support page says ordinary mods and CC still work in the same way as before.

Can you refund Marketplace purchases?

EA says Maker Packs and Kits bought through The Sims 4 Marketplace are generally non-refundable, although exceptions can be made in some circumstances. Purchases made through a platform or store with its own refund rules may need to be handled by that store’s support team.

Eligible EA Play members receive their normal EA Play discount on Marketplace purchases made with real-world currency. The discount can also apply when buying Moola with real money, but it does not discount an item when you spend Moola itself.
