THE FINALS VR removal arrived with Season 12 PRIME TIME on October 20, 2026. Embark has retired VR currency, replacing the old method of buying individual weapons and gadgets with automatic unlocks and Playstyle Tokens.
If you’ve logged in and wondered where your saved VR balance went, it hasn’t moved to a different menu. Embark removed the currency altogether. Weapons and gadgets now unlock automatically or through the Playstyle they belong to, so your next stop is the loadout screen, not the old VR shop.
THE FINALS VR removal: Why Embark retired VRs
Embark says players used VRs to finish the original equipment grind, then often remained stuck at the currency cap because there was little left they wanted to buy. The developers considered other uses but weren’t happy with them. Their October 20 announcement says VRs are removed completely.
That means you don’t need to grind matches hoping the old balance starts increasing again. There is no normal VR shop to return to in PRIME TIME; the progression system is built around Playstyles instead.
THE FINALS VR removal: Weapon and gadget unlocks
Equipment is now either automatically available or supplied when you unlock its parent Playstyle using Playstyle Tokens. Open the loadout or Playstyle screen to see which path applies to the specific weapon or gadget you want. Don’t use an old VR price list to judge its new cost.
THE FINALS VR removal doesn’t mean you need to spend premium Multibucks on ordinary weapons. Multibucks still support paid cosmetic offers and Battle Pass options, while Tokens are the new Playstyle unlock resource. Embark hasn’t listed every Playstyle Token price in the launch notes, so use the values displayed in-game.
THE FINALS VR removal: What happened to your balance?
Embark’s announcement doesn’t offer a VR-to-Multibucks exchange or a refund based on your saved balance. VRs have been removed entirely. If the old currency counter is missing but your weapons and account are otherwise available, that’s consistent with the Season 12 changes.
If an item you previously had available is suddenly missing from your loadout, that’s a different problem from THE FINALS VR removal. Check its new parent Playstyle first, then contact Embark support with the exact item and your account details if its status seems wrong.
What are Playstyle Tokens in THE FINALS?
Playstyle Tokens unlock a Playstyle with its associated equipment. For example, the Light Playstyle gained the Infiltrator tools True Sight, Mimic Device and Translocator in Season 12. Infiltrator isn’t a separate Playstyle you must purchase. Our Infiltrator guide explains the effects; the current game menu will show any Token requirement.
Don’t confuse Playstyle Tokens with Reward Pass cosmetics, Sponsor Fans or the Halloween ticket wheel. They are separate progression systems. If you’re trying to unlock Sponsor cosmetics, follow active Sponsor Challenges in the Sponsor Journey instead.
Does THE FINALS VR removal affect purchased skins?
Removing VR currency is not an announcement that earned cosmetics have been wiped. Premium Battle Pass rewards, bought store sets and Sponsor items use different systems. Embark explicitly says old Sponsor rewards already obtained remain yours, although unearned rewards from the retired Sponsor system are gone.
If you want to know whether a costume costs real money or is part of a free event, inspect the current reward screen. The THE FINALS VR removal shouldn’t be mistaken for a change to the premium shop’s Multibucks balance.
What to check when you first log back in
Start with your saved loadouts. Look at the Playstyle each unavailable item belongs to and check whether it’s automatically unlocked or has a Token requirement. If you haven’t played since earlier seasons, inspect the new main menu before spending anything.
