THE FINALS Infiltrator Translocator: Range Nerf and Mimic Device Fixes

THE FINALS Infiltrator Translocator has been nerfed in Update 12.1.0. Its maximum range is now 50 metres instead of 70, so Light players must place their escape or repositioning object closer to the fight. The same 29 October patch also fixes four Mimic Device problems that could expose a disguised player, interfere with movement or let them pass through objectives.

The Infiltrator was introduced with Season 12 PRIME TIME on 20 October, alongside True Sight and Mimic Device. Those three tools serve different purposes, and the recent patch hasn’t removed any of them. Here’s what the Translocator still does, exactly what’s changed and how the rest of the Light setup works.

The Translocator swaps your position with a marked object when that object is within range. The latest patch reduces that maximum range from 70 metres to 50 metres. It is a change to how far you can reach, not a change to how many objectives exist or a replacement for the swap mechanic.

In practice, THE FINALS Infiltrator Translocator now rewards preparing a nearer fallback object. Before diving into a fight, identify an object you can swap with and keep it inside the updated limit. Trying to rely on the previous 70-metre distance will leave you outside the gadget’s new range.

Why did Embark nerf the Translocator?

Embark says the gadget made a bigger impact than expected after PRIME TIME launched. One particular complaint was how frustrating it felt to fight an opponent who seemed to vanish quickly from the encounter. The range reduction is an immediate balance response while Embark continues to monitor the gadget.

THE FINALS Infiltrator Translocator still gives Light players a way to reposition or escape, but the shorter distance makes choosing your object more deliberate. The full Update 12.1.0 guide covers the other nerfs, including the CB-01 Repeater and Pike-556.

How to unlock and use the Infiltrator Light tools

Open the Light Playstyle loadout and look for True Sight, Mimic Device and Translocator. True Sight is a Specialization, while the other two are gadgets. Infiltrator is the name used for this collection of new Light tools, not a separate playable character with its own class slot.

The Season 12 progression changes also removed the old VR currency system. Check your available Light equipment and the game’s current unlock prompts rather than following outdated instructions to farm VR. Our Playstyle Tokens guide explains what changed.

THE FINALS Infiltrator Translocator vs True Sight

True Sight is for finding enemies. It reveals opponents through smoke, including those using cloaking or disguises. The Translocator, by contrast, is a position-swap gadget. One gives you information and the other helps you change your own location.

If an opponent is hiding around a Cashout, True Sight can give you an advantage without requiring a risky chase. The ability’s exact active range and duration aren’t specified in Embark’s Season 12 summary, so watch the indicators in the game instead of relying on numbers from an unofficial build.

Mimic Device: all four fixes in Update 12.1.0

The Mimic Device lets you scan nearby objects and disguise yourself as one, blending into the Arena. The 29 October patch fixes four specific problems with that disguise:

  • Duplicate shadows: the disguised object should no longer display a second Contestant-shaped shadow that gives away your position.
  • Invisible collision: explosive elimination should no longer leave an unseen Contestant-shaped obstruction until you respawn or are revived.
  • Momentum: dashing while disguised should no longer cause unexpected speed changes.
  • Objective clipping: Mimic Device should no longer let players pass through Cashout Stations or Grand Vaults.

These are bug fixes rather than new disguise abilities. THE FINALS Infiltrator Translocator isn’t part of those four repairs; its separate change is the 50-metre maximum range. True Sight remains a way to expose a concealed opponent even after the shadow issue is fixed.

Tips for using the Infiltrator after the patch

Pick a believable object for Mimic Device and keep its surroundings in mind. A prop standing in the middle of an open doorway may still attract suspicion, even without the old duplicate-shadow bug. If you’re using True Sight, scan likely hiding spots near a contested objective.

For the THE FINALS Infiltrator Translocator gadget, place the marked object where it can actually help you escape, and remember the 50-metre limit before committing to a push. The best use of the three abilities depends on whether you need reconnaissance, deception or a fast change of position.
