Sims 4 No Swim Option is a current Island Living bug affecting players who click the ocean in Sulani and find that the normal swimming interaction simply is not there. The EA Forums report is now marked Upcoming Fix, which is important because this is no longer just a vague community complaint or a problem that can automatically be blamed on mods.
The frustrating part is that Sims can still use pools, and some shallow water may still offer options such as Wade Here, while the deeper ocean fails to give the expected swimming command. That makes the Sims 4 No Swim Option bug feel like a routing or pack-installation problem even when the wider game is otherwise behaving normally.
Sims 4 No Swim Option is an acknowledged Island Living bug

The current EA Forums report describes Sims, including mermaids, being unable to use the ocean normally after Island Living is installed. Players have reported clicking deep water and getting no swim interaction at all, while pool swimming continues to work.
EA has moved the report to Upcoming Fix. That status does not give us a release date by itself, but it does mean the team has progressed beyond simply collecting reports. If you are seeing the same ocean behaviour on a clean game, there is no reason to tear apart a healthy save trying to solve an acknowledged game-side problem.
This is also separate from the broad freezing and cancelled-action investigation around Patch 1.128. The symptom here is specifically that the ocean interaction is missing or unavailable, rather than a command appearing in the queue and then becoming stuck.
Sims 4 No Swim Option: what the Island Living bug looks like
With the Sims 4 No Swim Option bug, the most useful clue is the difference between water types. Pools may work normally, while clickable ocean water in Sulani does not offer Swim Here. In some shallower areas the game may still show Wade Here, which can make it look as though only one part of the shoreline is broken.
Mermaids are affected too, so creating a mermaid does not bypass the problem. The bug report includes players who tested new saves and removed custom content, which is one reason the current Upcoming Fix status matters more than old troubleshooting advice that assumes every missing interaction is caused by a local file.
What to check when Sims 4 No Swim Option appears
Even with an acknowledged bug, it is worth doing a short clean test so you know you are dealing with the same problem. Confirm Island Living is installed, travel to Sulani and try more than one clearly swimmable ocean area. If pools work but deep ocean water has no Swim Here option, your symptoms line up closely with the current report.
- Update The Sims 4 fully before testing.
- Try a second Sulani neighbourhood rather than one shoreline.
- Test a pool to confirm ordinary swimming still works.
- Temporarily remove mods and delete localthumbcache.package on PC or Mac.
- Use a fresh save if you need to rule out an old save-state problem.
Why reinstalling Island Living is unlikely to be the first move
A full reinstall is a heavy response to Sims 4 No Swim Option when EA already has an active report for the same symptom. If Island Living content is otherwise present and the pack loads normally, repeatedly reinstalling the entire game is unlikely to give you useful diagnostic information.
A repair through the EA app or your platform is reasonable if other pack content is missing too. For the ocean-only issue, though, the cleaner test is whether the same behaviour happens in a fresh unmodded save. If it does, keeping your main save backed up and waiting for the upcoming fix is the sensible approach.
Can you work around Sims 4 No Swim Option?
There is no official workaround that restores the missing ocean command in every affected save. Some players can still use shallow-water interactions in parts of Sulani, and pools remain useful for ordinary swimming gameplay, but neither is a true replacement for Island Living ocean swimming.
Do not use risky save edits or unknown mods purely to force a temporary fix. When EA has already moved a bug to Upcoming Fix, the safer option is to preserve the save and use other water activities until the game-side repair arrives.
When to add your report
If Sims 4 No Swim Option still happens in a clean current-version game, add your experience to the existing EA Forums report rather than opening a completely separate thread for the same symptom. Include your platform, whether Island Living was recently installed, the Sulani area you tested and whether pools still work.
Those details help separate Sims 4 No Swim Option from unrelated routing, save or mod problems. Once the fix ships, the same information will also make it easier to tell whether Sims 4 No Swim Option has returned as a regression or the remaining report is a different issue.
