Sims 4 Freezing: What Patch 1.128 Fixed and What Is Still Broken

Sims 4 Freezing Patch 1.128 troubleshooting guide

Sims 4 Freezing is still an active issue after Patch 1.128, even though the September 22 update fixes several specific causes of Sims and time becoming stuck. EA explicitly says other freezing bugs remain under investigation, so a freeze on the current build does not automatically mean your patch failed to install.

Sims 4 Freezing can describe several different symptoms: time may stop while the environment keeps animating, a Sim can become idle after an interaction, the action queue can stop advancing or the entire game can become unresponsive. Patch 1.128 fixes some of those patterns but not every case that looks similar.

Sims 4 Freezing received targeted fixes in PC 1.128.90.1030, Mac 1.128.90.1230 and Console 2.39. One confirmed bug involved a Sim trying to use an object while another Sim occupied the position needed to perform the action. Time and Sims could freeze even though environmental animation continued.

EA changed the reservation for that interaction position so the game can release it and evaluate the space again on the next attempt. This is a specific fix, not a general performance tweak. They break down the fix further and the remaining investigation in EA’s official September 22 patch notes. Sims 4 Freezing is therefore best troubleshot by matching your symptom to the cases the studio actually named.

Sleep, chat and stuck queues were also changed

Sims 4 Freezing can appear when an interaction queue becomes stuck rather than when the whole simulation stops. Patch 1.128 changes interaction-priority handling for sleep and chat, especially group chats, so a new player-directed action can cancel those interactions more reliably.

EA also adjusted several tending interactions that could remain staged and block the next command. These changes use the normal interaction-cancellation lifecycle, which should reduce cases where a Sim looks frozen simply because an old action never released its place in the queue.

A post-WooHoo idle freeze was fixed

Another Sims 4 Freezing case fixed in Patch 1.128 could leave a Sim idle after WooHoo when an autonomous interaction was queued during the transition. EA changed the transition handling so the game does not generate an unnecessary new sequence once the target Sim has finished routing and positioning.

If your freeze happens specifically after WooHoo, install Patch 1.128 before trying more invasive troubleshooting. If the same clean save still reproduces the exact behaviour on the current version, it should be treated as a possible remaining or different bug.

EA says other Sims 4 Freezing bugs remain

Sims 4 Freezing is not fully resolved. EA says it is still investigating a series of other bugs connected to Sims freezing and interactions being cancelled. The studio notes that these reports can present similarly even when they are caused by different systems.

That distinction matters. A player can describe two issues as ‘my Sim froze’ while one is routing, another is a queue reservation, another is simulation lag and another is a mod conflict. A useful report needs the exact action and sequence that causes the freeze.

How to troubleshoot Sims 4 Freezing now

Start Sims 4 Freezing troubleshooting by backing up the user folder and testing without mods. Move the Mods folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, delete localthumbcache.package and use a disposable save. EA says outdated mod files were responsible for its highest automated crash report during this update, so custom files deserve an early check.

  1. Confirm the game is on Patch 1.128 for your platform.
  2. Test the same action in a new save with no mods.
  3. Move or replace the object involved in the freeze.
  4. Test on another lot to separate lot routing from household behaviour.
  5. Reduce crowded group interactions if the freeze happens during socials.
  6. Restart the game and reproduce the exact sequence before reporting it.

Freezing is not the same as low frame rate

Sims 4 Freezing should also be separated from poor performance. If animation continues but time and Sims stop, that closely resembles the issue EA specifically fixed. If the entire game runs slowly but still responds, you may be dealing with frame-rate or simulation-performance problems instead.

Likewise, if the game closes entirely, use crash troubleshooting rather than Sims 4 Freezing steps. Patch 1.128 contains a separate set of stability fixes for rendering, SimService, navigation, Build Mode transitions and Social Bunny.

For a freeze that remains reproducible in a clean Patch 1.128 save, keep the test simple and record the object, interaction, lot and preceding action. Sims 4 Freezing is still on EA’s investigation list, and precise reproduction steps are far more useful than a general report that the game stopped.
