ROCK

Regirock is a pure Rock-type Pokémon. Although it has several weaknesses, its extremely high Defence can make a Regirock Pokémon GO raid last longer than battles against less durable Legendary Pokémon.

Can Regirock Be Shiny in Pokémon GO?

Yes, shiny Regirock is available in Pokémon GO.

Regular Regirock has a mostly brown and orange body made from large rocks. Shiny Regirock changes much of its body to a darker chocolate-brown colour, with the orange sections becoming more vivid.

A shiny encounter is not guaranteed after winning a Regirock Pokémon GO raid. Trainers may need to complete several raids before finding the shiny version.

Regirock will not look shiny while it is being fought. The shiny check happens when the catch encounter begins after the raid boss has been defeated.

Regirock Pokémon GO Weaknesses

The Regirock Pokémon GO weaknesses are:

  • Fighting-type attacks
  • Grass-type attacks
  • Ground-type attacks
  • Steel-type attacks
  • Water-type attacks
WATER2×GRASS2×FIGHTING2×GROUND2×STEEL2×

As a pure Rock type, Regirock resists:

  • Fire-type attacks
  • Flying-type attacks
  • Normal-type attacks
  • Poison-type attacks

The large number of weaknesses gives Trainers several ways to build an effective raid party. Water, Fighting, Ground and Steel attackers are particularly useful because many of the strongest Pokémon in the game belong to these types.

Partly Cloudy weather boosts Regirock and increases its catch CP. The attacks used by your counters may be boosted by Cloudy, Rainy, Sunny or Snowy weather, depending on their type.

Best Regirock Pokémon GO Raid Counters

The best Regirock Pokémon GO counters are powerful Fighting, Grass, Ground, Steel and Water-type attackers.

PokémonRecommended moves
Mega HeracrossCounter and Close Combat
Primal GroudonMud Shot and Precipice Blades
Primal KyogreWaterfall and Origin Pulse
Mega LucarioForce Palm and Aura Sphere
Mega SceptileFury Cutter and Frenzy Plant
Crowned Sword ZacianMetal Claw and Behemoth Blade
Shadow GroudonMud Shot and Precipice Blades
Shadow KyogreWaterfall and Origin Pulse
TerrakionDouble Kick and Sacred Sword
MetagrossBullet Punch and Meteor Mash

Mega Heracross is one of the strongest current Regirock Pokémon GO raid counters, while Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre can deal heavy super-effective damage and boost other attackers.

Mega Lucario, Terrakion, Metagross, Kartana, Groudon, Kyogre and strong Grass-type starters can also perform well.

Some recommended attacks, including Precipice Blades, Origin Pulse, Sacred Sword, Meteor Mash and Frenzy Plant, may require an Elite TM when they are not available through regular TMs.

Choose counters with both a super-effective Fast Attack and Charged Attack whenever possible. A Pokémon having the correct type does not automatically mean its equipped moves are suitable.

How Many Trainers Are Needed to Beat Regirock?

Regirock has one of the highest Defence stats among Legendary Pokémon, so it is not an easy solo raid.

Two exceptional Trainers using top-level counters may be able to defeat Regirock under favourable conditions. Most groups should bring at least three or four experienced players.

Group sizeRecommendation
One TrainerNot normally possible
Two TrainersPossible with exceptional counters
Three TrainersAchievable with strong teams
Four or moreRecommended for most players

A larger Regirock Pokémon GO raid group may be needed when counters are underlevelled, friendship bonuses are unavailable or players are relying on the automatically recommended battle party.

Party Power, Mega or Primal boosts, weather bonuses and high friendship levels can make the battle considerably easier.

Regirock Pokémon GO Perfect IV CP

The perfect IV Regirock Pokémon GO catch values are:

Encounter conditionsPerfect IV CP
Level 20 without weather boost1,784 CP
Level 25 with Partly Cloudy weather2,230 CP

A Regirock caught at 1,784 CP after a standard non-weather-boosted raid will have perfect 15/15/15 IVs.

A Partly Cloudy weather-boosted Regirock caught at 2,230 CP will also have perfect IVs.

Regirock has a relatively large catch circle, but Legendary Pokémon can still escape repeatedly. Use Golden Razz Berries and aim for Excellent Curveball Throws to improve the chance of catching it.

Best Regirock Pokémon GO Moveset

The best Regirock Pokémon GO moveset depends on how you intend to use it.

For raids and Gym battles, the recommended moveset is:

  • Fast Attack: Rock Throw
  • Charged Attack: Stone Edge

For the GO Battle League, the recommended moveset is generally:

  • Fast Attack: Lock-On
  • Charged Attack: Stone Edge
  • Second Charged Attack: Focus Blast

Regirock may have access to the following attacks:

Fast Attacks

  • Lock-On
  • Rock Throw
  • Rock Smash

Charged Attacks

  • Stone Edge
  • Focus Blast
  • Zap Cannon
  • Earthquake

Rock Throw and Stone Edge give Regirock a complete Rock-type raid moveset. Lock-On deals very little direct damage but generates energy quickly, making it the preferred Fast Attack for PvP.

Focus Blast provides coverage against Steel-type Pokémon that resist Rock damage. Zap Cannon can threaten Water-type opponents and may lower the opponent’s Attack, while Earthquake offers Ground-type coverage when available.

Is Regirock Good in Pokémon GO Raids?

Regirock can deal Rock-type damage in raids, but it is not one of the strongest Rock attackers available.

Its high Defence allows it to survive for a long time, but its Attack stat is much less impressive. Raid performance rewards dealing damage quickly, so Pokémon such as Mega Diancie, Rampardos, Rhyperior, Tyrantrum and Shadow Tyranitar usually provide better results.

The Regirock Pokémon GO raid moveset can still be useful against Pokémon weak to Rock, including:

  • Articuno
  • Moltres
  • Ho-Oh
  • Lugia
  • Tornadus
  • Yveltal
  • Mega Charizard Y

Regirock is usable when a Trainer needs an additional Rock attacker, but it should not normally be the first Pokémon receiving large amounts of Stardust or Rare Candy.

Is Regirock Good in PvP?

Regirock has more value in PvP than it does as a raid attacker.

Its exceptional Defence gives it strong bulk, while Lock-On generates energy rapidly. This allows Regirock to reach Stone Edge, Focus Blast and its other Charged Attacks despite their relatively high energy costs.

The Regirock Pokémon GO PvP role is most notable in the Ultra League, where it can pressure Flying, Fire, Ice and Bug-type opponents.

However, Regirock has several important weaknesses. Water, Fighting, Ground, Grass and Steel Pokémon can all cause problems, and many of those types are common in competitive formats.

Regirock can be a strong specialist choice, but Trainers should consider the cost before investing. Legendary Pokémon require substantial Candy and Stardust to prepare for the Ultra League, particularly when unlocking a second Charged Attack.

What Is Regirock?

Regirock is a Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation III. Its body is made entirely from rocks gathered from different locations.

According to Pokémon lore, Regirock repairs damage by collecting new stones and fitting them into its body. It does not appear to have a heart or brain.

Regirock belongs to the Legendary Titan group alongside:

  • Regice
  • Registeel
  • Regigigas
  • Regieleki
  • Regidrago

Every bit of Regirock’s body is made of stone. As parts of its body erode, this Pokémon sticks rocks to itself to repair what’s been lost.

Is Regirock Pokémon GO Worth Raiding?

Regirock Pokémon GO raids are worth completing for the Pokédex entry, shiny chance, Regirock Candy and the opportunity to catch a strong PvP candidate.

Regirock is not a priority Rock-type raid attacker, but its bulk and energy generation give it a legitimate role in the GO Battle League. Trainers interested in Ultra League battles should check the IVs of each Regirock before transferring it.

Collectors will also need Regirock to complete the full Legendary Titan collection with Regice, Registeel, Regigigas, Regieleki and Regidrago.
