Is Lugia Good in Pokémon GO?

Lugia is one of the strongest defensive Legendary Pokémon in Pokémon GO. Its enormous bulk allows it to survive attacks that would quickly knock out many other Pokémon, making it a favourite choice in Master League. While Lugia isn’t among the highest damage dealers for raids, its outstanding survivability and flexible moveset make it an excellent long-term investment for Trainers who enjoy PvP battles.

Lugia’s best moveset depends on how you plan to use it. For GO Battle League, Dragon Tail paired with Aeroblast is one of the strongest combinations thanks to Lugia’s excellent bulk and the power of its signature move. Trainers focused on raids may prefer alternative Charged Moves depending on the opponent, but Aeroblast remains Lugia’s defining attack and is well worth keeping if possible.

Can Lugia Be Shiny in Pokémon GO?

Switch between the normal and shiny appearance of Lugia.

Shiny Lugia is available in Pokémon GO whenever Lugia returns to five-star raids with its Shiny form enabled. The Shiny version features a striking pink and red colour scheme instead of the standard blue and white appearance, making it one of the most recognisable Shiny Legendary Pokémon. Every completed raid has a chance of rewarding a Shiny Lugia, and if you encounter one after defeating the Raid Boss, it is guaranteed to be caught provided every Premier Ball hits the target.

How to Get Lugia in Pokémon GO

Unlike most Pokémon, Lugia cannot be found in the wild. Trainers usually encounter Lugia during limited-time five-star raids whenever Niantic brings it back as a featured Legendary Raid Boss. Lugia has also appeared through Special Research and other one-off events in the past, although raids remain the primary way to catch it. If Lugia isn’t currently available, you’ll need to wait until it returns during a future Pokémon GO event or raid rotation.

PvP

Lugia is one of the best Legendary Pokémon for Master League thanks to its incredible bulk and access to strong Charged Attacks. It can absorb significant damage while applying constant pressure, making it a reliable choice for many competitive teams. Trainers with high IV Lugia should strongly consider powering it up for PvP.

Raids

Lugia’s raid performance is respectable, but it is generally outperformed by stronger Psychic and Flying-type attackers that focus on raw damage. Even so, its durability allows it to remain in battle longer than many alternatives, making it a useful option for Trainers who haven’t yet built specialised raid teams.
