PlayStation PULSE Edge Features make it the premium model in Sony’s refreshed PS5 headset lineup. The early-2027 headset combines eight-magnet planar drivers, active noise cancellation, a detachable boom microphone, hidden backup mic, game/chat balance control, an audio jack and a carrying case.
Those extras sit on top of the same platform foundation as standard PULSE: PlayStation Link, simultaneous Bluetooth, AI-enhanced voice noise rejection, built-in volume controls and support across PS5, Portal, PC and Mac.

PlayStation PULSE Edge Features: eight-magnet planar drivers
The driver design doubles the magnet count used by standard PULSE from four to eight per driver. Sony says the extra magnet volume is aimed at richer, deeper bass while keeping the detailed sound separation and spatial precision associated with its planar magnetic products.
Active noise cancellation
ANC is one of the biggest PlayStation PULSE Edge Features because standard PULSE does not include it. The system is designed to reduce ambient background sound for the listener, while the separate AI mic processing cleans up outgoing voice chat.
Detachable boom and hidden microphone
The boom mic can be removed completely when you do not want it in front of your face. Edge then has a hidden microphone available as a backup, making the headset easier to use for entertainment or travel without losing voice functionality entirely.
PS5 game/chat balance
Another of the useful PlayStation PULSE Edge Features is direct game audio and chat balance control on PS5. Sony’s comparison table does not list the same control for standard PULSE.
Audio jack and carrying case
PULSE Edge includes an audio/microphone jack and a carrying case. These additions make sense for the premium positioning because the rotating-earcup design can lay flat and the headset is intended to move between PlayStation Link devices.
Connectivity and device support
PlayStation PULSE Edge Features also include low-latency lossless PlayStation Link for PS5, Portal, PC and Mac plus simultaneous Bluetooth for another supported device. The included adapter uses USB Type-C.
What Sony still has not announced
Price, exact launch date, preorder date and battery life are still missing. Those unknowns matter because PlayStation PULSE Edge Features are clearly broader than PULSE Elite’s current set, but value cannot be judged until the final price and endurance figures arrive.
PlayStation PULSE Edge Features still awaiting detail
Sony has shown the major hardware differences, but it has not yet published battery capacity, weight, charging time, replaceable-cushion information or detailed ANC controls. Those omissions are normal this far ahead of an early-2027 launch but they still matter for a premium headset purchase.
PlayStation PULSE Edge Features should therefore be treated as confirmed where Sony lists them and unknown where the final specification sheet is silent.
Why the Edge feature set is broader than Elite’s
PULSE Elite already introduced planar magnetic audio, PlayStation Link, Bluetooth and AI microphone filtering. Edge builds on that foundation rather than replacing it with an entirely new wireless system.
The extra value in PlayStation PULSE Edge Features comes from the hardware around that platform: ANC, the eight-magnet driver design, detachable boom, hidden mic, game/chat control, wired jack and carrying case. Whether that is worth upgrading for will depend on price and battery life.
