Overwatch Doctrine is now a permanent Support hero in Season 5, which launched on October 6, 2026. The September Hero Trial is over, so there is no longer an early-access window to chase. Doctrine is part of the live roster, with his launch balance already adjusted from the version players tested at BlizzCon.

Blizzard built Overwatch Doctrine around lifeforce control rather than a traditional heal-first support loop. His Eternal Scepter can heal allies or damage enemies, Infuse changes the next ability you use, Invigorating Drones add healing and attack speed, Shrouded Momentum gives him mobility, and Deliverance swings a team fight by giving allies overhealth while reducing enemy maximum health.

Overwatch Doctrine joined the roster with Season 5 on October 6. Blizzard’s season announcement confirms that the vampire-inspired Support is one of the headline additions to A Grim Doctrine, alongside the Watchpoint: Grímsvötn Escort map and the wider Reign of Talon finale.

The September trial now matters mainly as context for the live balance. Blizzard said Doctrine performed above other Supports during the test, which is why several parts of his kit were toned down before permanent release.

The October 13, 2026 balance update lowered Eternal Scepter’s damage and healing from 60 to 55 per hit, and shortened Invigorating Drones from 6 to 5 seconds. Those are the current values to use when judging Doctrine’s healing output and timing your drone support. The abilities still work the same way, but each Scepter hit is weaker and drone coverage ends sooner.

Overwatch Doctrine abilities

AbilityWhat it does
Eternal ScepterMid-range weapon that heals allies and damages enemies for 55 per hit after October 13 (previously 60). Infused shots become larger piercing blasts.
InfuseEmpowers Doctrine’s next ability with an added effect.
Invigorating DronesDeploys drones for 5 seconds (previously 6), healing an ally and increasing attack speed. The Infused version also affects Doctrine.
Shrouded MomentumRushes horizontally with damage reduction. The Infused version gives free flight.
DeliveranceLaunches a drone swarm that gives allies overhealth and reduces enemy maximum health.

The common thread is decision-making. Overwatch Doctrine can contribute damage without dropping his support role, but Infuse forces you to choose what matters most in the next few seconds. A piercing Scepter shot, self-applied drones or free flight can all be correct, just not at the same time.

What changed from the Doctrine Hero Trial?

Blizzard made several direct changes before Overwatch Doctrine entered the permanent roster. The launch patch raised his Ultimate cost by 8%, reduced Invigorating Drones’ attack-speed bonus from 35% to 30%, and made Shrouded Momentum less forgiving.

Launch changeCurrent Season 5 value
Ultimate costIncreased by 8%
Invigorating Drones attack speed30%, down from 35%
Shrouded Momentum cooldown8 seconds, up from 7
Shrouded Momentum damage reduction40%, down from 50%
Shrouded Momentum critical-hit immunityRemoved
Deliverance drone fire rate5, up from 4
Deliverance overhealth/debuff duration6 seconds, down from 8
Deliverance decay duration4 seconds, down from 5
Transfusion conversion rateReduced by 50%

That combination keeps the same playstyle but punishes sloppy timing more. Doctrine can still take an aggressive angle, save an ally with drones or use Deliverance to force a fight, but he has less room to survive bad positioning than he did during the trial.

Overwatch Doctrine perks

The live Doctrine hero page lists two Minor Perks and two Major Perks. Saving Grace makes Invigorating Drones heal for 40 health when applied, while Sanguine Siphon heals Doctrine for 50% of the damage dealt by an Infused Eternal Scepter shot.

At Major Perk level, Transfusion reduces Infuse’s cooldown as Doctrine deals damage and healing, while Cost of Life trades 25 maximum health for 20% more Eternal Scepter healing. The choice changes how hard you lean into Overwatch Doctrine as a tempo Support versus a more dedicated healer.

Who is Doctrine in Overwatch?

Doctrine’s real name is Tamuka Yeukai. Blizzard’s official bio describes him as a cyberneticist who crossed a horrifying line while trying to save his brother, Tatenda, using technology that siphoned life from other people. Tatenda rejected what he had done and turned him in to Overwatch.

Doctrine spent decades imprisoned at Watchpoint: Grímsvötn until Doomfist arranged his escape. That jailbreak is why Overwatch Doctrine arrives at the same time as the Grímsvötn map and why he matters to the final chapter of Reign of Talon rather than feeling bolted onto the season as a standalone hero.

Is Doctrine still a trial hero?

No. The Hero Trial ran in September and has ended. Overwatch Doctrine became a permanent roster hero with Season 5 on October 6, so old instructions telling you to use the limited trial are now outdated.

If you are returning after trying him during BlizzCon weekend, use the current live patch values rather than memorising the trial build. Shrouded Momentum is weaker defensively, the drone attack-speed bonus is lower and Deliverance resolves faster but lasts for less time.

Where Doctrine fits in the Support roster

Overwatch Doctrine suits players who like contributing to the fight instead of standing behind the team and waiting for health bars to drop. Eternal Scepter rewards active target switching, while Infuse gives him a small decision tree every time it comes off cooldown.

He also arrived in the same season that Sombra moved into Support, so Season 5 has changed the role from two directions at once. Doctrine brings healing, mobility, attack-speed support and maximum-health pressure without copying the rhythm of Ana, Moira or Lucio.
