Nickit Pokémon GO is a Dark-type Pokémon from the Galar region that evolves into Thievul using 50 Nickit Candy. Although Nickit is not designed to be a powerful raid attacker, it is an important Pokédex entry and becomes particularly relevant during its August 2026 Community Day.
The event will also mark the Pokémon GO debut of Shiny Nickit, giving players their first opportunity to complete the shiny Nickit and Thievul family.
This Nickit Pokémon GO guide covers how to get Nickit, its evolution requirements, weaknesses, best moveset, shiny availability and everything confirmed for Nickit Community Day.

How to Get Nickit in Pokémon GO
Nickit Pokémon GO can be obtained through wild encounters and selected Pokémon GO events.
Its general availability can change between seasons, so Nickit may not always appear frequently in the wild. It can also return through event spawns, Field Research encounters or other limited-time features.
The easiest upcoming opportunity to catch Nickit will be its August 2026 Community Day. Nickit will appear much more frequently in the wild throughout the three-hour event.
To improve your chances of catching plenty of Nickit, players should:
- Use Incense while walking
- Place Lure Modules on nearby PokéStops
- Use Pinap Berries for additional Nickit Candy
- Clear Pokémon storage before the event
- Keep enough Poké Balls available
- Check every encounter for a shiny
- Appraise Nickit before transferring them
Nickit has a relatively cheap evolution cost, but catching a large number will still be useful for finding strong IV combinations and collecting Candy XL.
How to Evolve Nickit Into Thievul
Nickit evolves into Thievul using 50 Nickit Candy.
| Pokémon | Evolution requirement |
|---|---|
| Nickit | Starting Pokémon |
| Thievul | 50 Nickit Candy |
There is no Buddy walking requirement, special evolution item, time-of-day restriction or adventure task.
Simply open the Nickit you want to evolve and select the Evolve button once you have collected at least 50 Nickit Candy.
Players can obtain additional Nickit Candy by:
- Catching Nickit
- Using Pinap or Silver Pinap Berries
- Transferring unwanted Nickit
- Walking with Nickit as their Buddy
- Trading Nickit
- Using Rare Candy
- Completing event Research
It is worth waiting until Nickit Community Day before evolving your best Nickit because Thievul will receive an exclusive Charged Attack during the event.
Can Nickit Be Shiny in Pokémon GO?

Shiny Nickit will become available in Pokémon GO during Nickit Community Day on August 16, 2026.
Before that event begins, Shiny Nickit is not expected to be obtainable.
During Community Day, players will have an increased chance of encountering Shiny Nickit in the wild. The exact result is still based on chance, so not every player will find one immediately.
Shiny Nickit has a noticeably different appearance from its standard version. Its normal orange and brown colouring changes to a paler grey and blue-toned colour scheme.
Shiny Nickit can be evolved into Shiny Thievul using 50 Nickit Candy. Evolving it will not remove its shiny status.
Players who want the complete family should aim to catch at least two Shiny Nickit:
- One to keep as Shiny Nickit
- One to evolve into Shiny Thievul
Additional shiny catches can be saved for trades or evolved if they have stronger IVs.
Nickit Community Day Date and Time
Nickit Community Day takes place on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 2:00pm until 5:00pm local time.
Nickit will appear more frequently in the wild throughout the event and will have an increased chance of being shiny.
The main Nickit Community Day features include:
| Community Day feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Date | Sunday, August 16, 2026 |
| Time | 2:00pm to 5:00pm local time |
| Featured Pokémon | Nickit |
| Shiny debut | Shiny Nickit |
| Evolution | Nickit into Thievul |
| Exclusive move | Icy Wind |
| Evolution deadline | Up to four hours after the main event |
Players can evolve Nickit during the event or for up to four hours afterwards to receive a Thievul that knows Icy Wind.
That gives players until approximately 9:00pm local time to complete the evolution.
Nickit Community Day Bonuses
Nickit Community Day includes several bonuses designed to reward players for catching as many Pokémon as possible.
Confirmed bonuses include:
- Three times Catch Stardust
- Two times Catch Candy
- Twice the chance of receiving Candy XL when catching Pokémon
- Incense lasting for three hours
- Lure Modules lasting for one hour
- One additional Special Trade
- Trades requiring 50% less Stardust
- Event-themed Field Research
- Community Day Special Research
- Community Day stickers
- Photobomb encounters
- A chance of finding Nickit with a Special Background
The three-times Catch Stardust bonus makes this an especially useful Community Day even for players who are not interested in Thievul.
Using a Star Piece during the event will increase the amount of Stardust earned further.
Players should also use Pinap Berries if they need Nickit Candy, although catching quickly may be more valuable once they have enough Candy to evolve several Thievul.
How to Get Special Background Nickit
Some Nickit encountered during the August Community Day may have a Special Background.
Special Backgrounds appear on the Pokémon’s summary screen and make that particular Nickit a more distinctive collectible.
They do not increase a Pokémon’s battle strength, IVs or shiny chance.
Nickit attracted through regular Lure Modules during the event may also have the increased shiny chance and the possibility of receiving a Special Background.
Players looking for a shiny Special Background Nickit should play near several active PokéStops with regular Lure Modules.
Nickit Pokémon GO Best Moveset
The best Nickit Pokémon GO moveset is not particularly important for raids because Nickit is an unevolved Pokémon with low combat stats.
A suitable general moveset is:
- Fast Attack: Snarl
- Charged Attack: Night Slash
Snarl benefits from Nickit’s Dark typing and generates energy effectively, while Night Slash provides Dark-type Charged Attack damage.
Nickit is generally better evolved into Thievul rather than powered up for ordinary combat.
Players may still keep a low-CP Nickit for:
- The Little Cup
- Special themed cups
- Collection purposes
- Shiny collecting
- Pokédex completion
- Trading
Its actual viability will depend on the rules and available Pokémon in each limited PvP cup.
Nickit Pokémon GO Weaknesses
Nickit is a pure Dark-type Pokémon and is weak against:
- Bug
- Fairy
- Fighting
Fighting-type attacks are particularly common in Pokémon GO, making Nickit vulnerable to Pokémon such as Machamp, Lucario and other powerful Fighting attackers.
Fairy Pokémon can also deal super-effective damage while resisting Dark-type attacks.
Nickit Resistances
Nickit resists attacks from:
- Dark
- Ghost
- Psychic
Damage taken when Nickit is hit by each type:
Weak to
Resists
Immune to
Based on Dark typing. Abilities may modify these matchups.
Dark-type Pokémon have a particularly strong resistance to Psychic-type attacks.
These resistances are more valuable for Thievul because Nickit itself does not have enough bulk or combat power to perform well in most difficult battles.
Nickit Pokémon GO Stats
Nickit has low overall combat stats because it is the first stage of its evolutionary family.
Its greatest value comes from:
- Evolving into Thievul
- Completing the Pokédex
- Finding its shiny form
- Participating in Little Cup formats
- Collecting Community Day backgrounds
Players should avoid spending large amounts of Stardust on Nickit unless they have a specific Little Cup build in mind.
Is Nickit Good in Pokémon GO Raids?
Nickit is not a useful raid attacker.
As an unevolved Pokémon, it does not have the Attack stat, bulk or maximum CP required to compete with fully evolved Dark-type attackers.
Stronger Dark-type raid options include Pokémon such as:
- Mega Tyranitar
- Mega Houndoom
- Hydreigon
- Darkrai
- Shadow Tyranitar
- Yveltal
Nickit should be evolved into Thievul for any serious battle use, although Thievul itself is also unlikely to become a leading raid attacker.
The Nickit Pokémon GO family is primarily valuable for collection and PvP experimentation rather than raid damage.
Is Nickit Good in PvP?
Nickit may have limited use in Little Cup competitions where eligible Pokémon must remain under 500 CP.
Its Dark typing can be useful against Psychic and Ghost opponents, while Snarl can help it reach Charged Attacks relatively quickly.
However, Nickit is vulnerable to common Fighting, Fairy and Bug attacks.
It may also struggle against Pokémon with greater bulk or faster Charged Attack pressure.
Players interested in using Nickit in PvP should look for IV combinations that favour Defence and Stamina while keeping it below the relevant CP limit.
A high-Attack perfect IV Nickit is not necessarily the best option for Little Cup.
Should You Evolve Nickit During Community Day?
Yes, players should evolve at least one strong Nickit during Community Day to obtain Thievul with Icy Wind.
Icy Wind is a useful PvP Charged Attack that lowers the opponent’s Attack after it is used. The reduction applies even when the opponent blocks the damage with a shield.
This can allow Thievul to weaken opponents, improve difficult matchups and provide support for the next Pokémon entering battle.
Players should consider evolving:
- Their highest-IV Nickit
- A strong Great League candidate
- A strong Ultra League candidate
- A Shiny Nickit
- A Special Background Nickit
- A shiny Special Background Nickit, if available
There is no need to power up every evolved Thievul immediately. Players can evolve promising candidates during the event and decide later which one deserves Stardust.
What Is the Best IV Nickit?
The best Nickit depends on how the player plans to use it.
A perfect Nickit has 15 Attack, 15 Defence and 15 Stamina IVs. This is the most desirable version for collecting and producing a high-IV Thievul.
For Great League or Ultra League PvP, the ideal Thievul IV combination may have lower Attack and higher Defence and Stamina.
That allows Thievul to reach a higher level while remaining under the league’s CP limit.
For Little Cup, Nickit may also benefit from a low-Attack, high-bulk IV spread.
Players should therefore avoid transferring every low-Attack Nickit without checking its potential PvP ranking.
Nickit Pokédex Description
Aided by the soft pads on its feet, it silently raids the food stores of other Pokémon. It survives off its ill-gotten gains.
Nickit uses the soft pads on its feet to move quietly while stealing food from other Pokémon. It covers its tracks using its tail, helping it escape without being followed.
Is Nickit Pokémon GO Worth Catching?
Nickit Pokémon GO is worth catching for its evolution, shiny family and August 2026 Community Day rewards.
It is not an important raid Pokémon, but its low evolution cost makes Thievul easy to obtain. Community Day also provides the opportunity to unlock Icy Wind, collect large amounts of Stardust and find Nickit with shiny or Special Background status.
The most valuable reasons to catch Nickit are:
- Completing the Nickit and Thievul Pokédex entries
- Obtaining Shiny Nickit
- Obtaining Shiny Thievul
- Evolving Thievul with Icy Wind
- Collecting Special Background Nickit
- Farming Stardust during Community Day
- Finding PvP IV combinations
Players should keep their best Nickit until August 16 and avoid evolving their strongest candidates before the Community Day move becomes available.
