Minecraft calcite blocks now include slabs, stairs, walls, pillars, polished versions and bricks in the fourth 2026 game-drop tests. Java 26.4 Snapshot 7 and Bedrock Preview 26.70.23 both introduce the new decorative families, giving builders a much wider range of shapes than the original Calcite block.

You can craft Polished Calcite and Polished Calcite Bricks in the Java snapshot with two straightforward 2 by 2 recipes. Bedrock Preview adds the same block families, but its changelog doesn’t spell out every ingredient count. Below are the confirmed Minecraft calcite blocks recipes and the shapes you can make.

All Minecraft calcite blocks in the new update

Start with ordinary Calcite, the existing pale block found in the Overworld. The new set adds Calcite Pillars, Calcite Slabs, Calcite Stairs and Calcite Walls. That means you can put steps, roof edges and pillars beside ordinary Calcite without changing colour.

Polished Calcite has a smoother appearance and its own Slabs, Stairs and Walls. Polished Calcite Bricks provide a more defined brick pattern, along with matching Slabs, Stairs and Walls. All three sets are decorative. Calcite, Polished Calcite and Polished Calcite Bricks also produce the Slow Bouncy behaviour when absorbed by a Sulfur Cube in Java.

In Java 26.4 Snapshot 7, arrange four ordinary Calcite blocks in a 2 by 2 square to craft Polished Calcite. Next, arrange four Polished Calcite blocks in another 2 by 2 square to craft Polished Calcite Bricks. That is the confirmed crafting progression for the two new full blocks.

The changelogs don’t give the exact output count for every shape in both editions. Check the Stonecutter’s displayed output before using a large stack, especially in Bedrock Preview.

How to use a Stonecutter for Minecraft calcite blocks

Place a Stonecutter in your building area and insert a compatible Calcite material. With ordinary Calcite, Java Snapshot 7 offers the corresponding Calcite shapes and Polished Calcite options. Polished Calcite can be used to make its shapes and the brick progression, while Polished Calcite Bricks provide the matching slab, stair and wall shapes. Choose the output you want, then collect it.

For a large build, the Stonecutter saves you the trouble of arranging separate crafting patterns for each shape. The pale colour matches the Calcite already found in Ice Caves. Our Ice Caves guide covers the cold underground biome that already includes Calcite as part of its terrain.

Are Minecraft calcite blocks in Java or Bedrock?

The new shapes entered testing in Java 26.4 Snapshot 7 and Bedrock Preview/Beta 26.70.23 on 3 November 2026. In Bedrock, the update specifically lists Calcite Stairs, Slabs, Walls and Pillars along with the polished and brick blocksets. Both editions have the new sets, but the Bedrock notes don’t confirm every Java recipe ratio.

Minecraft calcite blocks from these newer sets are not automatically available in ordinary stable Survival just because you have an updated Launcher. For Java, enable Snapshots in the Minecraft Launcher Installations tab. For Bedrock, use the appropriate Preview on Xbox, PlayStation, Windows or iOS, or the Beta on Android. Back up worlds before testing experimental builds.

What are the best uses for Minecraft calcite blocks?

Use regular Calcite across the main wall or floor, Polished Calcite as a smoother border and the brick set around windows or entrances. Pillars work as columns, stairs make clean stepped edges and slabs let you add thin layers without a solid full-block profile. For a contrasting blue material, Packed Ice Bricks offer an entirely different frozen look with their own mechanics.

If these blocks aren’t in your crafting menu, check the build number first. The new Minecraft calcite blocks are part of the fourth 2026 game-drop testing, not a change to how ordinary Calcite generates.
