Minecraft Preview 26.70.22 arrived on 28 October 2026, adding Snow Bricks and a new Cold Sulfur Cube behaviour to Minecraft Bedrock’s test builds. There’s also a sizeable round of fixes for Frostbites, Packed Ice Bricks, Ender Pearls and several platform-specific problems.

The headline features are easy to picture: Snow Bricks make permanent-looking winter buildings, and giving a Sulfur Cube Blue Ice lets it form Frosted Ice while sliding across water. This is a Preview/Beta update, though Mojang has separately added some earlier winter features as experiments in the stable Bedrock 26.60 release. The new 26.70.22 adjustments are not the same as a finished game-drop launch.

Minecraft Preview 26.70.22: new blocks, mobs and fixes

Mojang’s October 28 changelog focuses on two additions, followed by smaller fixes. Here are the changes worth looking for if you’ve just installed the build:

  • Snow Bricks and their slabs, stairs and walls arrive for winter builds.
  • Cold Sulfur Cubes create Frosted Ice as they cross water source blocks.
  • Packed Ice Bricks now give Note Blocks the Chime sound and have corrected names and Creative placement.
  • Wandering Traders sell one Ice Crystal for two Emeralds.
  • Husks and Drowned convert to Zombies before becoming Frostbites in Powder Snow.
  • Ender Pearl, Nintendo skin, split-screen, keyboard and Marketplace fixes arrive.

Snow Bricks in Minecraft Preview 26.70.22

Snow Bricks are a decorative building set that does not melt. They come with matching slabs, stairs and walls, so you can build a snowy roof, wall or pathway without relying on normal snow layers. Mojang lists a shovel as the best tool for the new bricks.

These are distinct from Packed Ice Bricks, the blue building set added in the previous Preview. The official patch notes confirm the Snow Bricks’ properties, but they don’t specify every crafting and Stonecutter output. For recipes, use the test version’s recipe book rather than substituting Packed Ice ingredients.

Cold Sulfur Cube in Minecraft Preview 26.70.22

Give an existing Sulfur Cube a Blue Ice block and it takes on the new Cold archetype. As it moves across water source blocks, it creates Frosted Ice, much like the Frost Walker effect. Otherwise, it behaves like the Fast Sliding archetype.

You can test the behaviour around a pond or flat stretch of water in a separate Preview world. The Cold type changes what the cube does while moving, not how Ice Caves generate. For more about the creature itself, see our Sulfur Cube guide.

Packed Ice Bricks, Note Blocks and Ice Crystal trades

Packed Ice Bricks now appear in the right Creative inventory location and use more consistent names. Their slabs and stairs have fixes for interactions with water and lava. Mojang also changed the sound of a Note Block placed on Packed Ice Bricks to Chime.

A Wandering Trader now offers one Ice Crystal for two Emeralds. That’s a second way to collect the crystal used in the Ice Caves update. It is a trade offer, not a recipe for crafting Ice Crystals yourself.

Frostbite conversion fixes in Minecraft Preview 26.70.22

Husks and Drowned convert into ordinary Zombies first when left in Powder Snow, before continuing into Frostbites. Mojang also stopped Zombies, Husks and Drowned taking freezing damage from Powder Snow, helping those conversions work as intended.

Ice Caves now use snowy variants when spawning Villagers and Zombie Villagers. If you’re hunting the frozen zombie, the Frostbite guide covers its drops, spawning restrictions and Freezing attacks.

Other fixes in Minecraft Preview 26.70.22

Ender Pearl teleporting is more consistent with Java Edition: Mojang fixed a case where arriving beside a block could trigger effects meant for standing on it. Number keys on a keyboard now move hotbar items into Furnace, Blast Furnace and Smoker slots. Android users also get physical-keyboard chat and command fixes.

Nintendo Switch local and platform-only worlds now correctly show equipped exclusive skins, including Mario Mash-up skins. The patch also fixes too-fast split-screen animations, a ray-traced Campfire rendering bug and some Marketplace Pass screens. Players using the experimental Music Features Add-On get a Pocket Jukebox movement fix.

Do you need Preview to play Minecraft 26.70.22 features?

Yes, for the changes introduced in 26.70.22. The build is available through Minecraft Preview on Xbox, PlayStation, Windows and iOS, or the Google Play beta on Android. Don’t load a world you can’t afford to lose into a test version without a backup.

There is one version detail worth knowing: the stable Bedrock 26.60 update, released on 27 October, already contains certain Drop 4 of 2026 experimental features, including Ice Caves and Frostbites. Those are not the same as the new Snow Brick and Cold Sulfur Cube changes introduced in Minecraft Preview 26.70.22. Mojang hasn’t announced a final, non-experimental release date for the entire winter drop.
