Minecraft Snow Bricks: How to Craft Slabs, Stairs and Walls

Minecraft Snow Bricks

Minecraft Snow Bricks are a new decorative building block set in Java Edition 26.4 Snapshot 6, released on October 27, 2026. Craft them by arranging four full Snow Blocks in a 2×2 square, then turn the bricks into matching slabs, stairs and walls for snowy builds.

Snow Bricks must be shaped in a crafting grid because the Stonecutter has no recipes for the variants. You’ll also need a shovel to recover the blocks after placing them. These rules apply to the current Java snapshot, not the normal stable game.

How to craft Minecraft Snow Bricks

Place four Snow Blocks in a 2×2 crafting pattern. You can make this square in your inventory’s basic grid or use a crafting table. The input is a full Snow Block, not one of the thin Snow layers that accumulates on the ground after snowfall. If you put Snow layers into the grid, you are not following the recipe Mojang announced.

The set also includes Snow Brick Slabs, Snow Brick Stairs and Snow Brick Walls. Make your full Snow Bricks first, then use the crafting grid for the shapes you need. A Stonecutter won’t accept the bricks in Snapshot 6.

Minecraft Snow Bricks: crafting slabs, stairs and walls

Use full blocks for the walls of an igloo or frozen fort, slabs for ledges and overhangs, stairs for roofs and walls for low barriers. The matching shapes give you far more room to work with than stacking plain Snow Blocks for every part of a build.

The Stonecutter does not process Snow Bricks into those variants in Snapshot 6. This differs from Packed Ice Bricks, which have documented Stonecutter outputs. If the Stonecutter screen doesn’t list Snow Brick parts, it’s not a broken installation; that restriction is part of Mojang’s stated design for the new set.

For a Survival build, gather snowballs from snowy ground using a shovel, then craft four snowballs into a full Snow Block. You need four full Snow Blocks for the brick recipe. Preparing those ingredients before you start saves repeated trips back to snowy terrain.

Which tool mines Minecraft Snow Bricks?

Use a shovel to collect placed Snow Bricks. Mojang specifies that the bricks only drop themselves when mined with a shovel. If you break them with an unsuitable tool, you risk losing the placed blocks, which matters more when you’re building a large snowy structure and moving sections around.

This differs from Packed Ice Bricks, which require a pickaxe to drop in Java Snapshot 6. If you’re mixing the two materials in one build, carry both tools before dismantling any part of it.

Minecraft Snow Bricks and Sulfur Cube movement

The bricks are also assigned to the Fast Sliding Sulfur Cube archetype. That means a Sulfur Cube absorbing one of these blocks adopts the fast-sliding type of behaviour. This is a mob-interaction property and is separate from how Snow Bricks look or feel as placed building blocks.

If you want the new freezing effect instead, feed a Sulfur Cube a block of Blue Ice. That creates the Cold Sulfur Cube, which can float and form Frosted Ice over water under certain movement conditions. Snow Bricks and Blue Ice do not have interchangeable effects on the cube.

Can you use Minecraft Snow Bricks in Bedrock?

The corresponding block set is also being tested in Bedrock Preview/Beta 26.70.22. The Bedrock notes describe Snow Bricks as decorative blocks that do not melt and are best mined with a shovel. Preview and Beta are experimental releases, so this does not make the blocks available in a normal stable Bedrock world.

For Java, open the Minecraft Launcher, enable Snapshots in the Installations tab and choose 26.4 Snapshot 6. For Bedrock, join the appropriate Preview or Beta programme. Back up your world and use a separate test save because features can still change before the final game drop.

Why aren’t Minecraft Snow Bricks appearing in my game?

The most common reason is the version. A regular stable installation does not include this new block family yet. Check that your launcher is actually opening the 26.4 snapshot, not the most recent standard release. Also confirm you’re using full Snow Blocks for the 2×2 recipe rather than Snow layers.

If a recipe still won’t appear in the correct snapshot, check the ingredient first: you need full Snow Blocks, not loose snowballs or Snow layers. For slabs, stairs and walls, use the crafting table, since the Stonecutter doesn’t offer those pieces.

Our Minecraft 26.4 Snapshot 6 guide covers the other additions, including the new mob archetype and ice fixes. Minecraft Snow Bricks give builders another full set of winter-themed pieces to try in test worlds.
