Pizza Hut store shut down amid Genshin Impact collab

The Pizza Hut x Genshin Impact collaboration began in China yesterday, August 29th, 2022. However, amid this exciting event, at least one Pizza Hut store was reportedly shut down by the police.

Genshin Impact‘s popularity can’t be denied. Even statistics show how commercially successful the game is based on its revenue. With constant expansions of its game world, the addition of exciting characters, and its upcoming second anniversary, the game is only expected to grow in popularity even more.

While the game has made several collaborations due to this popularity, it was also this same popularity that led to at least one Pizza Hut store’s closure. The incident occurred when the crowd of Genshin Impact fans at the said store became too thick for general crowd safety and COVID-19 protocols to be observed.

A photo of this incident was posted by user Fabuloso81 on the Genshin Impact subreddit with the caption:

“Pizza Hut collab is so popular in china that police has to shut it down for crowd safety.”

It can be recalled that the collaboration between Genshin Impact and KFC back in March 2021 also caused a similar incident. Participating KFC stores in Shanghai and Hangzhou had been shut down for violating China’s COVID-19 protocols.

Will the Pizza Hut stores open again?

It is currently unknown how many stores exactly were shut down. However, this closure appears to be only temporary. According to user Even_Statement9686, the Pizza Hut stores will reopen, considering that the event only lasts for two weeks.

“Just some up-to-date info as for now, only one or two pizza hut restaurants were temporarily closed for the crowd (will reopen since this event will last for two weeks). As almost every pizza hut restaurant in major cities joined this collab, most of them are serving normally now.

Have to say this time pizza hut (and collab organizer) does learn from last collab chaos and they are doing rather decent so far.”

The Pizza Hut x Genshin Impact collaboration, which features the characters Amber and Eula, begins on August 29th and ends on September 17th.

Genshin Impact is an action role-playing game developed by miHoyo, also known as HoYoverse. The game is available for PC, PS4, PS5, iOS, and Android, while a release on Nintendo Switch is currently in the works.
