Fortnite The End Music: Song Name, Composer and How to Play It

Fortnite The End music is the orchestral score from the moment the original island collapsed into a black hole on 13 October 2019. The track is called The End, and its composer, Phill Boucher, has the original Chapter 1 recording in his published catalogue.

The melody later appeared in a lobby music pack, but that version isn’t timed to the original rocket sequence. Here’s how to find the recording you remember and play the pack if you unlocked it.

What is Fortnite The End music called?

Fortnite The End music appears in Boucher’s catalogue as The End (Chapter 1): Fortnite, a 3-minute, 7-second instrumental. There is no singer or lyric to search for, so use the composer and chapter to find the original instead of unrelated tracks named The End.

The original scene started with rockets crossing the sky through rifts. The meteor was drawn towards the Zero Point at Loot Lake, and the island disappeared into the black hole. Fortnite The End music builds as the sequence gets bigger, then gives way to the eerie quiet of that final screen. It’s a remarkably effective soundtrack for something that happened inside a live multiplayer game.

Is Fortnite The End music the same as the lobby track?

Fortnite The End music accompanied the action on 13 October 2019, with the arrangement following the rockets and meteor as the event played out. When Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1 launched on 15 October, players could unlock a separate The End lobby music pack. The lobby arrangement uses material from the event and the transition to Chapter 2, so it doesn’t match every moment of the original rocket sequence.

That difference explains why Fortnite The End music can sound familiar in a Locker preview but not quite like the event footage. If you want the dramatic sequence exactly as players heard it in 2019, the original event recording is the better match. If you want the melody while you wait for a match, the lobby pack does that job.

How to play Fortnite The End music in your Locker

Players who earned the original music pack can still select it in the Locker. Epic Games’ current instructions for changing lobby music are straightforward:

  1. Open Fortnite and go to Locker.
  2. Select Lobby on the left.
  3. Choose Lobby Music.
  4. Find The End in your owned tracks and select it.

You can also turn lobby music off from that menu. The pack plays the arrangement, not the full rocket and black-hole sequence.

Can you still unlock the original music pack?

The End was a Level 48 reward in the Chapter 2 Season 1 Battle Pass, which launched on 15 October 2019. It was not a Season X reward, despite being heard during that season’s finale.

If you earned the original pack, it remains in your owned lobby music collection. Fortnite The End music isn’t part of the modern OG Season X Pass, so buying that pass does not unlock the old track.

Where to listen to the original soundtrack

The composer has preserved the original Chapter 1 score on his own website, under the title The End (Chapter 1): Fortnite. That is the cleanest way to identify the composition. For the full sequence, our Fortnite Live Events History archive has a recording of the 13 October event. The way Fortnite The End music rises with the rocket launch and drops away when the black hole appears is a big part of the appeal.

Why the ending still hits so hard

The music gives the finale room to breathe. It starts with the wonder of seeing multiple rockets arrive, climbs as the meteor approaches Loot Lake and then stops being the centre of attention at exactly the right moment. Instead of following the explosion with an even bigger musical finish, Fortnite leaves players looking at a black hole.

That abrupt switch from a huge orchestral build-up to almost nothing is a big part of why Fortnite The End music sticks in people’s heads. You remember the sound, but also the silence that followed it. There’s a reason the 2019 finale still comes up whenever players talk about their favourite Fortnite events.

This is the Chapter 1 finale from October 2019, rather than the other event called The End that finished Chapter 2 in December 2021. Both are major moments in Fortnite’s history, but they have different stories, visuals and music.

If the original theme is what brought you here, start with the Chapter 1 recording. It takes only a few seconds for that opening build-up to bring the black-hole finale right back.
