The Fortnite Giant Turtle is getting attention again after a Facebook post claimed the enormous creature is returning for the Treasure Hunters season on 1 November 2026. If you remember landing on its shell in Chapter 6, you’ll know why people are excited. But Epic Games hasn’t announced its return.
The photo is familiar because The Great Turtle really was part of Fortnite. It had trees growing across its shell, loot to collect and even a quest involving an NPC called Ryūji. The question is whether we’re looking at a genuine tease for the next season or an old favourite making the rounds again.
Is the Fortnite Giant Turtle returning in November 2026?

There’s no confirmed Fortnite Giant Turtle return as of 28 October. The Facebook post says it’ll be back next season, but the picture shows the same grassy-shelled creature seen on the Chapter 6 island. It doesn’t show a new spawn point or any feature from the upcoming Treasure Hunters map.
That doesn’t mean a return is impossible. Fortnite brings back familiar characters and landmarks all the time. It simply means this particular post doesn’t provide evidence that Epic has brought the turtle back. The new season’s One Piece teasers, including the Going Merry, haven’t established a Great Turtle appearance either.
If you’re searching for its location on the November map, there isn’t one we can confirm yet. The locations below are from the original Chapter 6 season, not directions for the upcoming island.
Where did the Fortnite Giant Turtle originally appear?
Epic introduced The Great Turtle with Chapter 6 Season 1: Hunters on 1 December 2024. It wasn’t a skin or a boss. It was a huge living landmark sitting in the water, with a green shell covered in grass and trees. From the Battle Bus, it could look like another little island until you spotted its face.
The Fortnite Giant Turtle initially occupied a single spot on the island. From the December 10 update, it could turn up at one of several locations each match, so players had to look for it before dropping. The places included water near Lost Lake, Nightshift Forest, Magic Mosses, Warrior’s Watch, Whiffy Wharf and Masked Meadows.
You could land on its back, search the chests and take advantage of the loot before moving on. It was an unusually memorable landing spot, partly because you were quite literally standing on an enormous turtle. All those named locations belonged to the Chapter 6 map.
How did the Fortnite Giant Turtle quest work?
The Fortnite Giant Turtle had more going on than a few loot chests. In the original Hunters story, Epic described it as an old creature searching for its lost partner. An NPC called Ryūji was involved in helping it, and a Chapter 6 quest asked players to clear dark magic from its shell.
The original quest worked like this: find and visit The Great Turtle, speak to Ryūji, then break the five Dark Magic Thorns growing on its back. You could destroy them with your pickaxe. Afterwards, you returned to Ryūji and claimed loot from his Rare Chest. Discovering the turtle also awarded quest XP during that original event.
That quest isn’t a new Treasure Hunters objective. If you find an old video telling you to land near Lost Lake and hit five thorns, you’re watching a Chapter 6 walkthrough. There’s no confirmed equivalent quest or reward for November 2026.
Did The Great Turtle ever find its partner?
That lost-partner story wasn’t forgotten completely. Later in Chapter 6, the island featured two Great Turtles together, with Ryūji appearing nearby. It’s a lovely little piece of Fortnite history, and another reason long-time players remember the creature so fondly.
That later appearance is still part of the older Chapter 6 storyline. It shouldn’t be confused with a confirmation that either turtle will feature in Treasure Hunters.
Is the Fortnite Giant Turtle in the Treasure Hunters trailer?
Nothing in Epic’s confirmed Treasure Hunters material currently establishes the Fortnite Giant Turtle as a returning location. The upcoming season has been presented around its pirate theme and One Piece crossover. A giant turtle would fit the sense of adventure, but a good thematic fit isn’t the same as an official reveal.
The easiest way to settle the rumour will be to check the new island when Treasure Hunters launches on 1 November 2026. If The Great Turtle appears, we’ll then be able to tell whether it has a fixed location, moves between matches or comes with any new quests. Until then, the Facebook picture is a reminder of the original Chapter 6 landmark, not proof that it’s returning.
