ESO Transmute Crystals pay for two important gear upgrades: changing a trait on an item you own, or making a fresh copy of collected set gear through the Sticker Book. They aren’t ordinary crafting materials you can buy at a blacksmith.

You earn them through selected daily dungeons, Undaunted pledges, PvP rewards, Trials and arenas. The fastest choice depends on your character and what you already play, but there are several guaranteed sources that are worth using before gambling on random boss drops.

Guaranteed ways to earn Transmute Crystals

The first Random Daily Group Finder reward, Undaunted pledges, Trial weekly quests, certain arena and leaderboard rewards, Alliance War end-of-campaign rewards and the first Rewards for the Worthy of the day guarantee Transmute Crystals according to ESO Support. Veteran Maelstrom and Dragonstar Arenas are also on the guaranteed list. Start with your first daily random dungeon if your character can queue comfortably. It’s easier to fit into a routine than organising a weekly Trial solely for the currency.

Which activities can drop Transmute Crystals

Later random Group Finder rewards, dungeon final bosses and Rewards for the Worthy mails after the first of the day have a chance to supply Crystals. Some events add them to reward containers. Transmute Crystals don’t drop from every chest or enemy, and repeating a single dungeon boss isn’t the same as earning the guaranteed daily reward. If you’re short of playtime, favour the activities that explicitly award them rather than relying on several lucky drops in a row.

Get them from Cyrodiil and Battlegrounds

The Alliance War pays end-of-campaign reward containers to qualifying participants, and those can include Transmute Geodes. You need to earn the required campaign reward tier first, as shown by the campaign progress bar. Switching to a different home campaign before the end can forfeit that reward progress. PvP players can also earn Rewards for the Worthy mail, with the first qualifying mail each day guaranteed to include Crystals. So you can earn Crystals through PvP even if you rarely run dungeons.

Where to spend ESO Transmute Crystals

You can use a Transmute Station in the Brass Fortress of Clockwork City, a player home or guildhall that has one, or newer alliance locations introduced with Update 51. Those include crafting areas in Cyrodiil and alliance bases in the Imperial City sewers. Rolis Hlaalu also sells a furnishing station for Writ Vouchers. The station handles trait changes and reconstructing collected set items; check which menu you select before spending Crystals.

Trait changes cost 50 Transmute Crystals

Select Transmute, choose your existing eligible piece of gear and pick a trait the current character has researched for that exact item type. Confirm the fixed cost of 50 Crystals. Your item keeps its current upgrade quality rather than being rebuilt as a new piece. This option is especially attractive when you’ve already spent gold-quality improvement materials on the gear and only want to replace an unwanted trait.

ESO Transmute Crystals – Reconstruction costs between 75 and 25

The Sticker Book’s Sets menu lets you reconstruct an already collected non-crafted set piece. Reconstruction costs 75 Crystals when you’ve only collected one item from a set, declining as more items are added and reaching 25 when the set is complete. You choose a researched trait without a separate trait stone. If the new item needs higher quality, you’ll have to provide the appropriate improvement materials. Check the displayed reconstruction price rather than assuming it’s always cheaper than a 50-Crystal transmute.

ESO Transmute Crystals storage cap and ESO Plus

You can hold 500 Transmute Crystals on a normal account, or 1,000 with active ESO Plus. If your subscription expires while you’re over the standard cap, the excess stays in your balance, but you can’t earn more until you fall below 500. Spend Crystals on gear you genuinely want rather than opening reward containers while already capped. The cap is account currency storage, not an item limit in your character’s ordinary inventory.

Which use saves the most resources

An old Legendary piece with the wrong trait is often worth transmuting for 50 rather than rebuilding and paying for another set of upgrade materials. For a full Sticker Book set with no costly upgrade needs, a 25-Crystal reconstruction can be better. Deconstructing a reconstructed item returns 25 Crystals, but doesn’t return every improvement material. Check both the Crystal cost and the upgrade materials before committing.
