ESO Update 52 is scheduled to release on 19 January 2027, bringing a native minimap, expanded Companion customization, higher furnishing limits for selected homes and other player-experience improvements. The update is already available to test as version 12.2.0 on the Public Test Server, although those features are not live in the main game on 2 November 2026.
The main patch is planned for 19 January. The new Jerall Pass PvP zone follows on 27 January as Season Three starts, despite being available earlier on the PC/Mac PTS. That separate launch date matters if you’re returning specifically for the new battlefield.
ESO Update 52 release date and UK schedule

ZeniMax’s Season Two calendar marks 19 January 2027 for the new quality-of-life improvements and PvP season. The update was made available for testing on 26 October 2026 with the 12.2.0 PTS patch. A specific UK maintenance completion time for the January live release has not been announced in the calendar.

What is coming in ESO Update 52?
The official update preview names a new minimap interface, higher home furnishing limits, and more ways to customize Companions. ZeniMax’s wider PTS notes also include changes for tanks and combat, including area-of-effect pulls and taunts. Not every feature being tested has the same activation date as the live patch.
These improvements are part of the ESO Update 52 base game rather than a separate Chapter purchase. The PTS also includes Scribing support in the Armory, guild reordering, a leave-guild confirmation and a longer post-dungeon timer.
How will the new minimap work?
ESO Update 52 introduces a built-in minimap UI option, giving players a way to keep a smaller map visible while exploring. It is a new base-game interface feature, rather than a requirement to install a third-party add-on. This is especially welcome for players who want navigation information available without opening the full map.
There’s already a minimap to try on the PTS. Its controls and layout may change before January, so the current test menu shouldn’t be presented as a final live-server walkthrough. The confirmed addition is a built-in minimap.
How do housing furnishing limits change?
Furniture Streaming is the technical change behind the higher limits. ZeniMax’s Update 52 notes identify both Classic and Notable homes as benefiting. Notable homes receive double the traditional furnishing slots, while Classic homes get a smaller increase. The following are PTS 12.2.0 values and could still change before launch.
| Home size | Current traditional slots | Update 52 PTS limit |
|---|---|---|
| Classic | 250, or 500 with ESO Plus | 300, or 600 with ESO Plus |
| Notable | 350, or 700 with ESO Plus | 700, or 1,400 with ESO Plus |
Special furnishings and collectibles have higher caps in these categories too. ESO Plus continues to provide double the normal limits. For a Classic home, the standard traditional furnishing allowance rises by 50 slots, whereas a Notable home gains another 350. Check the final in-game counter once ESO Update 52 reaches live servers.
What are the new Rimegales world events?
Rimegales are a new type of timed world event being tested alongside ESO Update 52. They replace the usual Dark Anchor encounters temporarily in Eastmarch and the Rift, bringing frigid storms, bonfire-building and waves of Rime Giants. Their PTS schedule places Rift events on the hour and Eastmarch events on the half-hour. They are part of the Season Three content being previewed, not an event already running on live servers.
Players need to deal with the Frigid Chill debuff during the storm. ZeniMax’s first PTS feedback summary identified problems with the debuff, weather effects and events restarting too quickly, with fixes planned for the next test build. Watch the official patch notes for the final live behaviour rather than treating early PTS rewards or timings as permanent.
What changes for Companions?
ESO Update 52 adds more ways to change how Companions look, including head and facial appearance options. Rather than being stuck with the same hair or appearance setup, players will have more freedom to personalize their travelling allies.
During the first PTS week, ZeniMax identified a bug where dyeing a Companion’s hat also changed the player’s hat, plus an issue with some markings on Ember. Both were under investigation when the Week 1 summary was published. They are PTS findings, not a description of the finished January build.
Does ESO Update 52 add Jerall Pass and new PvP?
Yes, Jerall Pass is part of the overall Update 52 testing programme, but its permanent activation is scheduled for 27 January with Season Three. It is a three-sided PvP zone centred on Fanthor Keep, with a target of roughly 40 players from each alliance. The developers are still reviewing group balance and keep resources.
The coordinated Jerall Pass test on 3 November at 8 PM EST is only for PC/Mac players using the Public Test Server. In Britain that is 1 AM GMT on Wednesday, 4 November. ZeniMax also plans to add Jerall Pass voice-over with Update 53, rather than delaying this zone until the voice work is complete.
Is Update 52 available on the PTS now?
Yes. ESO Update 52 testing began with PTS 12.2.0 on 26 October 2026. PC/Mac players with an active account can enable Show Public Test Environment in the ESO launcher and download the separate test client. The PTS does not run on PlayStation or Xbox.
The PTS gives PC/Mac players a chance to try the minimap and Companion options now. ZeniMax is collecting feedback and making adjustments during the 12.2.x test cycle.
