Enshrouded 1.0 Storage Chest Upgrades let you improve a placed chest or turn it into a Magic Chest without emptying it first. Your stored materials remain inside, so an established base no longer needs an entire storage-room rebuild just to gain more capacity.
Version 1.0 also makes ordinary 24-slot chests and Magic Chest recipes available earlier in progression. New players can build useful storage sooner, while established players can upgrade their existing containers.
How to use Enshrouded 1.0 Storage Chest Upgrades
Interact with a placed chest and select its upgrade option. Choose the improved capacity or Magic Chest conversion you want, check the listed ingredients and confirm the upgrade. The existing contents stay where they are.

Enshrouded 1.0 Storage Chest Upgrades: convert to a magic chest
Magic chests let supported crafting workstations draw eligible supplies from storage, reducing the need to move materials into your character inventory. In version 1.0, eligible existing chests can be converted instead of replacing them with a new chest in another location.
Enshrouded 1.0 Storage Chest Upgrades: do contents remain inside?
The in-place upgrade is specifically intended to avoid emptying a chest to replace its furniture. After the conversion, inspect its contents before modifying the next one. Keep a backup of important saves before a major base rebuild, especially immediately after installing a large update.
Enshrouded 1.0 Storage Chest Upgrades: why an upgrade option is missing
Make sure you have Enshrouded version 1.0 or later, you’re interacting with an eligible storage chest and any required recipes or materials are available. Decorative furniture and other storage objects may not offer the same conversion. Verify the interaction on the intended chest.

Enshrouded 1.0 Storage Chest Upgrades: how to organise a storage room
Start with boxes containing frequently used crafting materials and upgrade them one at a time. Test whether nearby crafting stations can access the storage after conversion. This approach helps avoid losing track of ingredients while rebuilding several work areas at once.
Enshrouded 1.0 Storage Chest Upgrades: chest upgrades versus auto loot
Auto Loot changes how items get picked up during exploration. Chest upgrades affect storage and crafting at your base. They complement one another, but picking items up automatically does not cause them to teleport into storage, and upgrading a chest doesn’t change pickup behaviour in the field.
Enshrouded 1.0 Storage Chest Upgrades: step-by-step checklist
- Install Enshrouded 1.0 and visit your base.
- Choose an existing storage chest and keep it placed where it is.
- Use the chest’s available upgrade interaction and inspect the possible conversions or capacity increases.
- Check the actual crafting materials required by the selected upgrade before confirming.
- Upgrade the chest in place, then open it and check its stored items.
- If you converted it to a Magic Chest, check whether your nearby crafting stations can use the resources held inside.
You can work through a storage room one container at a time. After upgrading a chest, reopen it to check the contents and confirm that any connected crafting stations can still use the stored resources.
Enshrouded 1.0 Storage Chest Upgrades: 24-slot storage and Magic Chest crafting
Keen Games also moved the crafting recipes for regular 24-slot storage chests and Magic Chests earlier in progression. That is separate from the in-place upgrade interaction. A new player may gain access to those storage options sooner, while an established player can improve containers already in the base.
Converting an existing chest to Magic storage is useful when you want crafting stations to access supported resources without manually taking out each ingredient. This doesn’t mean every decorative container or inventory type can be converted. Check the eligible chest and its displayed recipe. The official update notes do not give a universal material cost or exact slot count for every possible upgrade.
