Enshrouded Ancient Researcher is Loraine Crim, a new survivor introduced with the October 2026 1.0 release. You rescue her soul during Land Of The Sky Islands at Cinder’s Ascent, summon her to your base and unlock Ancient crafting stations, including the Infusion Altar and placeable Gem Forge.
The NPC is called Ancient Researcher, not Ancient Knowledge Survivor. Her recipes require a sheltered bed and, in some cases, specific materials or quest discoveries. This walkthrough covers her actual location, step-by-step recruitment, the two major station recipes and the quests needed to unlock them.
Who is the new survivor?
Enshrouded Ancient Researcher is Loraine Crim, the specialist survivor added in Enshrouded 1.0. The release notes describe her as an expert in Ancient knowledge and recipes; Her actual in-game role is Ancient Researcher. She joins through Land Of The Sky Islands in Cinder’s Cradle, then offers crafting stations, Ancient gear and several main quests. She is not the Collector Alden Crowley, who unlocks the Hollow Halls.
How to reach Cinder’s Ascent
To unlock the Enshrouded Ancient Researcher, advance the Flame’s Land Of The Sky Islands quest through Reach The Ancient Gate and Reach The Heart Of Cinders until it tells you to Look Around Cinder’s Ascent. The ruined ascent is in Cinder’s Cradle, north of Veilwater Basin. Improve your Flame for the northern Shroud and bring gear suited to high-level opponents before entering the volcanic region.
Where to collect Loraine’s soul
The Enshrouded Ancient Researcher soul is inside the study chamber near Cinder’s Ascent, rather than on the inactive teleport platform. Follow the quest marker into the ruin, inspect the room with the fallen researcher and interact with the soul using Collect Soul. Nearby notes expand on the Ancients; a chest behind the desk can also contain Ony’s Staff, Heal Cascade II, Archaic Shards, Ancient Health Potions and Gold Coins. The journal changes to Summon The Ancient Researcher And Speak To Them.
Summon her and assign a bed
Return to your Flame Altar settlement, equip the Summoning Staff, select Loraine Crim from the Craftspeople list and place her at a valid position. Talk to her to finish Land Of The Sky Islands and begin her follow-up quests. The Enshrouded Ancient Researcher needs a sheltered bed for most crafting recipes. Place a bed under a roof and make sure it is assigned to Loraine; a bed left outdoors may make the Infusion Altar recipe unavailable.
Craft the Infusion Altar
After discussing the Altar Of Infusion with the Enshrouded Ancient Researcher, open her Production Place recipes. The Infusion Altar requires 30 Basalt, 10 Gold Dust, 5 Celestium Bars, 1 Moonstone Dust and 1 Diamond Dust. Craft it and place it inside your base to complete Crafting An Infusion Altar for 450 XP. Collecting Diamond and talking to Loraine can be necessary for the quest to appear. The altar makes Archaic Infusion, an important ingredient for endgame crafting.
How to make Archaic Infusion
The Enshrouded Ancient Researcher Infusion Altar is used to turn late-game resources into Archaic Infusion. Its recipe calls for Magma Gel, Sparkling Dust, Archaic Essence VII, an Archaic Core and Archaic Shards. The infusion is used in high-level equipment, Eternal spell and arrow progression, and the placeable Gem Forge. Keep the altar accessible next to your other stations and store mining materials in nearby chests so you can make more as needed.
Unlock A Gem Forge Of Our Own
Loraine also gives the Enshrouded Ancient Researcher quest A Gem Forge Of Our Own. Head to the Ancient Citadel in Cinder’s Cradle and locate the quest’s search area, roughly 290 metres northeast of Vorgoth’s arena. Inside the marked ruin, break a tall shelf stacked with urns to expose an illuminated orange wall switch. Press it to open a metal grate upstairs. Read GEM FORGES: CONSTRUCTION NOTES, GENERATION VII in that upper room to unlock the Placeable Gem Forge recipe.
Placeable Gem Forge materials
Craft the Enshrouded Ancient Researcher Placeable Gem Forge through Loraine after learning its recipe. The materials are 30 Basalt, 10 Gold Dust, 10 Celestium Bars, 5 Moonstone Dust, 5 Diamond Dust and 2 Archaic Infusions. Place it at a base to complete A Gem Forge Of Our Own and earn 450 XP. This station allows you to upgrade gems and insert them into weapons at home instead of travelling to other Gem Forge locations.
Other recipes from Loraine
The Enshrouded Ancient Researcher crafting list includes the Archaic Lockpick, Infusion Altar, Ancient Workbench, Placeable Gem Forge and late-game Vorgoth’s Soulbound armour, alongside decorative plant pots. The Archaic Lockpick recipe uses one Archaic Shards. The Ancient Workbench needs two Celestium Bars, ten Basalt and six Archaic Shards once its associated miniature showcase collection is complete. Some recipes appear only after obtaining their key ingredient, completing a quest or discovering a collection.
Ancient Researcher main quests
The Enshrouded Ancient Researcher has four main quests: Activating The Gate To The Stars, Crafting An Infusion Altar, A Gem Forge Of Our Own and Cinders Of The End. Activating The Gate To The Stars sends you through six regional Beacon Dungeons and back to Loraine, paying 450 XP. Cinders Of The End leads to the Ancient Capital, Vorgoth and the Mother Flame, and pays 3,200 XP with Vorgoth’s Soulbound Crown and Gloves. These beacons are not Hollow Halls.
Why a recipe is not showing
If the Enshrouded Ancient Researcher offers no Infusion Altar, check that she is properly summoned, has a sheltered bed and that you have spoken with her about the altar. If a Gem Forge recipe is absent, verify that you read the Construction Notes in the Ancient Citadel; merely reaching the search area is insufficient. If a recipe is greyed out, compare every material in her crafting menu. For some Ancient gear, you must obtain the related drop before the blueprint becomes visible.
Can you move or resummon Loraine?
The Enshrouded Ancient Researcher is a normal rescued craftsperson once unlocked. Use the Summoning Staff in a Flame Altar area to reposition her and provide a sheltered bed. If another survivor occupies the nearest free bed, inspect the bed assignment with the staff and give Loraine her own. After moving her, speak to her and reopen the crafting menu to confirm the station recipes appear. You don’t need to repeat the full Cinder’s Ascent soul rescue.
