Sports Resort Bowling includes regular ten-pin matches, 100-Pin Game and Special Lanes with obstacles. Use Joy-Con 2 motion controls to aim your swing and add spin. It’s also one of the nine competitive sports with its own Island Crown rankings.

The 12-sport roster mixes familiar motion-control activities with seven sports that were not in the completed Nintendo Switch Sports lineup. All twelve activities earn Spocco Points, but only the nine competitive sports have Island Crown rankings. Skateboarding, Power Cruising and Prop Plane are leisure activities. The main game guide compares ranked sports with the three leisure activities.

Bowling is also one of the five activities returning from the final Nintendo Switch Sports lineup. That makes it a direct bridge between the 2022 game and Resort, even though the sequel moves away from Spocco Square and builds its broader experience around Wuhu Island.

Use Joy-Con 2 motion controls to send the ball straight or give it spin. Resort also has a 100-Pin Game and Special Lanes with obstacles, in addition to regular Bowling. Island Crown offers separate ranking ladders for nine competitive sports.

The sport should have more structure for solo players because Island Crown applies to each sport. Nintendo says players can rise through ranks and challenge Island Champions and island Legends, which means Bowling participates in the new offline progression system.

Bowling also contributes to Spocco Points. Playing any sport in any mode earns these points, and they can be exchanged for customizations for a Mii or Sportsmate. Nintendo has not said that Bowling has a separate currency or exclusive reward track.

Sports Resort Bowling player limits

Nintendo’s official player chart lists one to four people locally, and up to sixteen in online Bowling matches. Private Friend Lobby has its own eight-player cap, separate from Bowling’s online match format. Online Friend Lobby supports up to eight participants across consoles. The player count in an individual Bowling session depends on the selected format. Friend Lobby supports eight people across multiple consoles, with up to two on one Switch 2.

The reliable launch picture is therefore clear without inventing details: Bowling is in, motion-controlled spin is in, Island Crown progression applies, and local and online play exist at the game level. Specific Bowling rule variants can be added once Nintendo documents them.

Bowling is also an obvious fit for the game’s broader family-play focus because it is easy to understand without learning a complex ruleset. Nintendo’s description keeps that accessibility while confirming that spin remains part of the motion input.

Nine competitive sports have separate Island Crown ladders, while the three leisure activities involve exploring Wuhu Island. All twelve are in the base game, and playing earns Spocco Points for cosmetics.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort launched exclusively for Switch 2 on 22 October 2026. All twelve activities are included in the game.

Choosing a Sports Resort Bowling mode

Pick a sport you enjoy and try its regular matches before moving into harder Island Crown opponents. The rankings are tracked separately for each of the nine competitive sports.

The Island Crown guide covers Bowling’s offline progression, while our player-count guide compares the match and lobby limits.

Sports Resort Bowling also has separate Island Crown opponents, so you can keep practising offline while progressing through its rankings. The online Bowling format supports up to sixteen players, though private Friend Lobby is limited to eight.
