Disney Dreamlight Valley Merfolk form is a new transformation coming with The Keepsake Sea expansion on 18 November 2026. It allows your character to explore underwater areas, change their appearance with fins and tails, and swim across surface water in the Valley and earlier expansions. You unlock it through the new expansion’s story.

This isn’t just a new outfit. You’ll be able to swim, fish from the water and decorate the underwater sections of the three new islands. Here’s how the transformation works and what you need to unlock it.

What is the Disney Dreamlight Valley Merfolk form?

The Disney Dreamlight Valley Merfolk form lets you become a sea-dwelling version of your character. It’s part of the main Keepsake Sea story, not a Deluxe-only cosmetic, and unlocks as you progress through the paid expansion.

You can still speak to Villagers and interact with objects in Merfolk form, which means exploring underwater won’t stop you from using the surrounding environment.

How to unlock Disney Dreamlight Valley Merfolk form

To unlock the Disney Dreamlight Valley Merfolk form, you need access to The Keepsake Sea. On most platforms, that means owning the base game and buying the expansion. Apple Arcade Edition includes the new content at no extra DLC cost.

Before you can start the expansion story, unlock Ursula and complete the six required base-game quests, including The Dream Castle, Friendship Is Everything and With Great Power…. Those are the prerequisites for entering the expansion, not the specific Merfolk unlock quest.

The story begins at Dazzle Beach with a strange statue and a message from an old friend. The Merfolk transformation comes later through the new adventure. Its exact quest name and steps won’t be available to follow until launch.

Which Merfolk customisation options are available?

You can customise your ears, fins, arms, torso, tail patterns and colours. You’re not limited to a single mermaid design.

You can use Photo Mode and DreamSnaps underwater, too. With Merfolk form, reefs, sea creatures and submerged buildings become new backdrops for your pictures.

Can you swim outside The Keepsake Sea?

Yes. You can swim across the surface of water in the original Valley and previous expansions. That doesn’t turn those locations into underwater biomes; dedicated underwater areas are part of the three new Keepsake Sea islands.

The Disney Dreamlight Valley Merfolk form also changes fishing. Instead of casting from the bank, you can dive into fishing ripples and collect fish instantly. The expansion announcement doesn’t give a full list of the fishing spots this works with.

What can you build underwater?

The Keepsake Sea introduces underwater decorations, themed architectural kits and water props across the three new regions: Shipwreck Shores, Candy Cove and the Kingdom of Oublié. New platforms can raise or lower placed items, making layered underwater builds possible.

Decoration Blueprints return, giving you larger pieces of furniture to restore. Alongside underwater decorations and height-adjustable platforms, they give you more ways to build below the surface.

Is Disney Dreamlight Valley Merfolk form included in standard?

The transformation is included with the standard Keepsake Sea expansion. Deluxe adds Flounder, Sebastian, the Merfolk Mansion House Style, Gilded Shell Tops and extra Moonstones, but the Merfolk ability is not one of its exclusive bonuses.

If you want to swim, customise a tail and explore the underwater regions, standard includes everything you need. The Disney Dreamlight Valley Merfolk form is a story unlock, so keep progressing through Keepsake Sea rather than searching for it in the Deluxe rewards.
