Darktide Spillway Mission: How to Complete It

Darktide Spillway mission is the new level added with Depths of the Damned, sending the Strike Team beneath the ancient dam in the Torrent to help the Ragged King investigate a spreading Nurgle corruption. The route starts in more familiar Darktide territory, then becomes increasingly claustrophobic before introducing branching paths and ending with the Prophet of Decay boss.

The key to completing the Darktide Spillway mission efficiently is the symbol system. After clearing the Moebian 6th outpost and its leader, the team uncovers a symbol that identifies the safer route through the branching tunnels. The symbol changes between runs, so memorising one left-or-right answer will not work reliably.

Darktide Spillway mission walkthrough

Push through the opening combat sections normally until you reach the Moebian 6th outpost. Clear the enemies and defeat the outpost leader, then pay attention to the symbol revealed by the mission. That symbol becomes your reference when the level begins offering different tunnel routes later in the run.

When you reach the first branching room, compare the route markings with the symbol you discovered. One route is the intended safer path and the alternative is deliberately harsher. The wrong route does not dead-end the mission, but Fatshark says it may contain traps, locked doors or extra work before the paths reconnect.

How the branching paths work

The Darktide Spillway mission contains two major route decisions. The first splits into two paths, while the second gives the team three choices. Fatshark randomises the correct symbol between playthroughs, which means the mechanic is designed to be read each run instead of solved permanently by a static map.

Every path still leads toward the same destination, so a teammate choosing the wrong branch does not make the mission impossible. The catch is that separated players cannot necessarily help one another until the routes meet again, which makes splitting the squad far riskier on higher difficulties.

What happens if you choose the wrong path?

A wrong route in the Darktide Spillway mission is harder rather than fatal. Fatshark specifically describes the punishment as possible traps, locked doors or additional tasks. That distinction is useful because players do not need to restart after a mistake; they need to survive the harder section and continue toward the reunion point.

If one player recognises the correct symbol, it is still usually smarter for the team to move together than to prove a point by taking different branches. The level was built so you can sometimes see teammates struggling on another route without being able to reach them immediately.

Prepare before the corrupted lower sections

As Spillway descends, the environment becomes more heavily corrupted and the run gets less forgiving. Save ammunition, grenades and healing for the deeper sections instead of emptying every resource into routine opening encounters. The boss fight is unique to this mission, so arriving with nothing left is an avoidable disadvantage.

The mission’s visual design also gets denser as the team approaches the source of the corruption. Staying together matters more once sightlines shorten and the level begins using mechanics that do not appear in older Darktide missions.

Prophet of Decay at the end of Spillway

The Darktide Spillway mission always culminates in the Prophet of Decay encounter. The boss has exhausted windows where melee damage is especially relevant, and Hotfix 1.13.1 adjusted those health thresholds on Damnation and above. In the second phase on those difficulties, the minimum number of tooth pillars is now three rather than two.

That hotfix is why teams should be careful with older guides recorded on the launch build. If a video shows only two pillars during a high-difficulty second phase, it may simply predate version 1.13.1 rather than demonstrating a different current strategy.

Does Spillway have one fixed route?

No. The branching mechanic deliberately prevents the Darktide Spillway mission from becoming one memorised corridor sequence. The symbol changes between runs and the correct route must be identified again, although all choices eventually converge before the boss.

For repeat clears, the best habit is therefore to look for the symbol every time, keep the team together and treat the boss arena as the point you are conserving resources for. That approach remains useful even when the exact randomised route changes.

Darktide Spillway mission is best understood from the current live build because Fatshark has already changed part of this update through Hotfix 1.13.1.

Darktide Spillway mission runs become much smoother once the team treats the symbol as a live route clue instead of memorising one branch from an older run.

Darktide Spillway mission runs are easier once the squad treats the symbol as a live route clue instead of memorising one branch from a previous attempt. The randomised symbol is what keeps repeat runs from collapsing into one fixed path.
