Crimson Desert A Wider World is the ocean storyline introduced by Charting the Unknown. Finish Howling Hill and expand Greymane Camp far enough to unlock it in the Journal, then set out towards new islands, shipping routes and underwater ruins beyond the Pywel coast.
The ocean adventure opens through Howling Hill and Greymane Camp, earlier than the quests that require Journey’s End. If A Wider World is missing, open your Greymanes faction quests and finish the outstanding camp expansion work. There’s no need to travel from port to port searching for its starting character.
How to start Crimson Desert A Wider World
To begin Crimson Desert A Wider World, complete the main-story chapter Howling Hill, then establish and expand Greymane Camp. Open Journal > Greymanes > Grounds of the Sunrise to progress the faction missions, including recruitment, gathering and dispatch-based camp construction.
Finish the camp’s available expansion assignments and return to the Journal. A Wider World appears after Howling Hill and the necessary camp expansion. Keep track of the camp missions under Grounds of the Sunrise so you can see which dispatch or faction objective is next. Our Greymane Camp guide walks through that quest chain.

Why Crimson Desert A Wider World is not appearing
If Crimson Desert A Wider World isn’t in your Journal, confirm that Howling Hill is actually completed. Then return to the camp faction chain and inspect unfinished dispatch missions. A construction assignment still underway won’t count until its timer ends and the relevant objective is completed.
Check the DLC installation too. Patch 2.04.00 launched on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and Epic Games Store, while the Mac App Store patch has a separate rollout. Make sure the game version is current before searching for its new quests. The Howling Hill walkthrough is useful if the original chapter has unfinished steps.
What does the new ocean quest unlock?
Crimson Desert A Wider World introduces the adventure at sea. Charting the Unknown adds sailing, maritime trading, island missions, treasure maps and sunken ruins. As you venture farther out, the sea becomes a destination with its own activities rather than a stretch of water between land areas.
There are two ways to obtain a ship: construct one through a port dispatch with your comrades or buy it from a fleetmaster. Fleetmasters in Demeniss and Delesyia also sell customisation parts. Our shipbuilding guide covers the difference between the dispatch and purchase routes.

Do you need a ship or diving equipment to start?
Getting a ship is a separate part of the expansion. The first Crimson Desert A Wider World quest is unlocked by story and camp progress, while ships are built through port dispatch missions or bought from fleetmasters. Diving is available without a quest unlock and uses the new breath gauge.
Refine the diving suit to increase that capacity. Certain food restores breath, and new equipment allows the A.T.A.G to function underwater. Sea mounts can also be subdued or fed to build Trust, then registered once their Trust is high enough. Those systems add more ways to explore the world after you reach the ocean.
Does A Wider World require Journey’s End?
No. Crimson Desert A Wider World starts after Howling Hill and the required Greymane Camp expansion. Journey’s End is the gate for the separate Kliff, Oongka and Damiane stories and the Garden of Trials combat challenge. Housing has another requirement, Luke’s Request.
If you’re partway through the story, you can begin working towards the ocean quests immediately after Howling Hill. Complete your Greymane Camp expansion assignments, check the Journal for A Wider World and follow its objectives towards the sea.
What to do after the ocean storyline appears
Once Crimson Desert A Wider World is in your Journal, select it and follow its markers. Leave eligible Greymane comrades available for shipbuilding dispatch missions if you plan to construct your first vessel. At a fleetmaster, you can instead compare the ships available to buy and the parts sold for customisation.
The new islands contain missions, and the waters around Pywel hide ruins and treasure. Once you’ve started the ocean quest, a ship helps you reach offshore destinations, while the diving suit’s breath improvements help with longer underwater searches. Our diving guide
