Crimson Desert Luke’s Request is the Greymanes faction quest that introduces home decoration and unlocks Free Construction in Charting the Unknown. Talk to Luke at Howling Hill, take the Flower Basket to the old house, place it in Decoration Mode, then return to Luke to finish. Once the DLC is installed, completing this quest and establishing camp unlocks the expanded housing editor.
To reach Luke’s mission, follow the Greymanes > Grounds of the Sunrise faction chain and complete Secure Resources. You don’t need to finish Journey’s End or the new ocean story for this house quest. The housing upgrade opens through the existing camp and flower-basket progression.
How to unlock Crimson Desert Luke’s Request
Crimson Desert Luke’s Request appears in the Embers of Return section of the Greymanes faction storyline after Secure Resources. You need to have progressed through Howling Hill and developed Greymane Camp enough to access those faction jobs. Secure Resources involves camp dispatches for materials such as stone and timber; the flower-basket task follows that sequence.
| Stage | Action |
|---|---|
| Prerequisite | Howling Hill and early Greymanes faction progress |
| Previous mission | Complete Secure Resources |
| Start Luke’s Request | Speak to Luke at Greymane Camp |
| House task | Place Flower Basket using Decoration Mode |
| Finish | Return to Luke and report back |
| DLC unlock | Access to expanded DLC housing now that the DLC is available |
You can find the relevant quests in your Journal under Greymanes and Grounds of the Sunrise. Later camp expansions may show additional tasks, but you don’t need a ship, a castle or a completed romance quest for this house-decorating tutorial.

Where is Luke and the old house?
For Crimson Desert Luke’s Request, find Luke near Ross, the Dispatch Coordinator, at Howling Hill’s Greymane Camp. Speak to him when his mission is active. He gives you a Flower Basket and asks you to freshen up an old house on the hill. The building is southeast of the camp, on the opposite side of the road near the ravine, and appears as a Home marker on the map.
Follow the hilltop route to the property rather than trying to decorate a random room in Hernand. If you lose your way, track the quest and look at the map’s house icon. There’s no combat encounter or required crafting recipe between receiving the basket and reaching the house.
How to place the Flower Basket in Decoration Mode
Enter the hilltop house during Crimson Desert Luke’s Request and look for the Decoration Mode prompt. Activate it, open the installable items list, select the Flower Basket and place the item inside one of the rooms. Confirm placement rather than only selecting the basket. The quest checks that you’ve actually installed it.
The camera changes to an overhead decorating view. Use the controls shown for your platform to move, rotate and place furniture. Once the basket is on display, leave Decoration Mode, return to Luke at the camp and tell him the work is complete. Luke will acknowledge that the house can be used as lodging.
Completing Crimson Desert Luke’s Request awards a Medium Bag and faction progress according to base-game quest records. It is also the foundation of the original Home Decoration feature, letting you return to place other installable items around the property.

Crimson Desert Luke’s Request not showing or not completing
If Crimson Desert Luke’s Request isn’t listed, check that the earlier Embers of Return missions, especially Secure Resources, are complete. Greymane dispatch jobs take time in the base game, so an assignment can still be pending even after you’ve visited the relevant resource site. Finish the faction objective and check in with camp leadership before returning to Luke.
If the Flower Basket doesn’t appear, make sure you’re in the installable-item selection inside Decoration Mode rather than simply searching your ordinary inventory. If placing it fails to register, reposition and confirm the installation. Leave the home and speak with Luke to finish the final step; the quest does not end automatically when you first enter the house.
Luke may be unavailable if he is assigned elsewhere on a camp mission. Check current dispatches instead of assuming the game is broken. Unrelated base-game issues with map icons are covered in our missing discoveries fix, but that article does not replace the house’s interaction requirements.
Why does the DLC require Luke’s Request?
With Crimson Desert Luke’s Request complete, visit the home and select Home Decoration > Layout > Free Construction in Charting the Unknown. Unlike the original Decoration Mode, Free Construction lets you change the home’s structure by placing elements such as walls and windows. The expansion also adds paths, trees, flowerbeds and other objects for decorating a property.
Charting the Unknown launched on October 29, 2026. You can use the housing features after installing the expansion and completing the two stated requirements. You do not have to unlock ships, businesses or Garden of Trials to build and furnish your home.
What should you do after Luke’s Request?
After Crimson Desert Luke’s Request, you can continue Expanding the Camp in the faction Journal or return to the house to work on its new layout. Our Free Construction guide covers the new structural editor, while the camp guide covers the following faction missions and dispatches.
