Crimson Desert businesses let you rent and manage restaurants, sawmills, smithies and tailor shops at liberated strongholds in Charting the Unknown. Establish Greymane Camp at Howling Hill and complete the relevant regional faction quest, then open the new Facilities tab on the world map to inspect available premises.

You can leave a workplace running while you explore, take quests or handle other camp business. The facilities provide management rewards and may attract special guests, so you can run one alongside your regular adventures rather than treating it as a separate full-time activity.

How to unlock Crimson Desert businesses

The Crimson Desert businesses system was introduced with the Charting the Unknown expansion and Update 2.04.00. Begin by establishing Greymane Camp in the main story. From there, complete the faction objectives for the region where you want to manage a facility. A liberated stronghold is one requirement; a functioning camp is the other.

This means you cannot unlock every workplace simply by buying the DLC. The relevant region needs to be free of hostile control and your faction progression must support managing it. The Greymane Camp guide covers the quest and dispatch work that gets your settlement running.

Where to find the Facilities map tab

Open the world map and select Facilities. This new tab shows information about management facilities and helps you find eligible strongholds. Choose a location to inspect its business option and the associated rental or management steps.

Two places to look for Crimson Desert businesses are Vellua, where the DLC features a restaurant, and Zargan Tankworks, which has a smithy. Sawmills and tailor shops are also available across liberated regions. Use the Facilities map tab to locate the workplace you want.

If you are looking for a business and cannot see its controls, check whether the stronghold is already held by the Greymanes. Update 2.04.00 marks Greymane-owned strongholds light blue on the map, making it easier to distinguish completed liberation from contested territory.

How to rent and operate a business

After the stronghold and camp requirements are met, open the facility’s management interface and follow its rental options. Crimson Desert businesses are managed properties, not portable crafting stations or ordinary merchants with extra stock. You gain access to a workplace and then operate it through the new management system.

Once the facility is open, use its management options to run the workplace and earn the rewards attached to management content. Restaurants, sawmills, smithies and tailor shops are all accessed through the Facilities map system, but you must unlock the relevant stronghold before operating it.

Do Crimson Desert businesses keep working while you’re away?

Yes. Crimson Desert businesses continue to operate even when your character leaves the area. You can visit the property, set up its operation and then return to exploration, faction quests or other DLC activities instead of staying there until its next result. Special guests can also arrive at businesses you manage.

This is separate from maritime trading, which uses the new ships and ocean trade goods. A restaurant or smithy appears under the Facilities tab, while sailing and trading involve fleetmasters and ship systems. Our shipbuilding guide explains how the sea economy fits into the expansion.

Why a restaurant, sawmill, smithy or tailor is locked

If a facility is greyed out, start with the area’s liberation quest. The Crimson Desert businesses system specifically depends on having established Greymane Camp and completed the relevant faction quest in that region. Neither a high character level nor completion of an unrelated ocean quest replaces those requirements.

Check the Facilities tab again after the stronghold has been freed and the mission has been registered. Don’t confuse a castle you can claim as personal property with a management facility you can rent. Drakesfall and Flame Knight’s Castle have their own progression routes, covered in the castles guide.

What to do with your first facility

Start with a facility in a region you’ve liberated. Open it from the Facilities tab, complete the management activity and collect its reward. Once the business is operating, you can leave it running while returning to quests, exploration and camp dispatches.

For the other systems added on October 29, including Free Construction, marriage and the new ocean storyline, see the Charting the Unknown overview.
