Boom Beach Warships is a real-time PvP mode where you attack another player’s ship while they’re attacking yours. You unlock it at Headquarters level 10, or earlier by purchasing the Boom Pass. Your target is their Engine Rooms, and protecting your own matters just as much.
Unlike a normal island attack, you’re racing another player to destroy the most important buildings on their Warship. Each season starts with two Engine Rooms, and you unlock more troops, defences and rooms as you move through the seasonal Tech Tree. Here’s what happens in a match and what to concentrate on first.
How to unlock Boom Beach Warships

The free route to Boom Beach Warships is to upgrade your Home Base Headquarters to level 10. Supercell also allows access through purchasing the Boom Pass. You don’t need the pass if you’re happy to progress your base to HQ 10 first.
Once you’ve unlocked the mode, open Warships in the game to view your ship and prepare for a battle. Supercell’s September 2026 update also added Warships ranking shortcuts to the player-profile screen. The mode isn’t restricted to mobile: Boom Beach’s official Windows version plays the same game, with mouse and keyboard controls.
How Boom Beach Warships battles work
Every Boom Beach Warships match gives both players a ship to attack and a ship to defend. While you deploy troops against the other player’s defences, they’re working their way towards your Engine Rooms. There’s no Headquarters to destroy on the enemy ship: Engine Rooms are the targets that decide the result.
Supercell’s stated win condition is simple: destroy all the opponent’s Engine Rooms faster than they destroy yours, or finish with more Engine Rooms still standing. That’s why a strong attack and a difficult-to-crack defensive layout both matter. You can take out an Engine Room and still lose the battle if the other player achieves more.
At the start of a season, your Warship contains two Engine Rooms. Further Engine Rooms become available through the Tech Tree alongside troops, weapons and defensive structures. As the ship develops, the choices open up; you are not locked to the initial two-room setup for the entire season.
How to win more Boom Beach Warships battles
The troop options and defensive layouts change each season, so a build from last month won’t necessarily work now. These are the first things worth checking before you start another battle:
- Find every Engine Room. Check where they’re placed and which defences cover the approach before you deploy.
- Choose a route. Pick which Engine Room to reach first rather than splitting your attack between targets with no clear path.
- Check the defences in between. A troop that hits hard is no use if it can’t survive the journey to its target.
- Fix weak spots on your ship. Think about which paths let attackers reach your Engine Rooms too easily.
- Upgrade what you’re using. Your seasonal Tech Tree determines which troops and defences you can unlock, so invest in a setup you can actually field.
If you keep destroying Engine Rooms but losing, look at your defensive layout as well as your attack. The player you’re facing is attacking at the same time, and how many rooms survive matters.
Boom Beach Warships Tech Tree and Engine Rooms
The seasonal Tech Tree is the main way to strengthen your Warship. Unlock Tokens open new nodes for troop types, defences, Engine Rooms and other options. Upgrade Tokens improve the things you’ve already unlocked. Some Engine Room nodes require a particular Headquarters or Tech Level before they become available.
Supercell also allows Warships players to unlock units in the Tech Tree that aren’t available to them yet in the regular Home Base. That means you should judge your Warships loadout on the seasonal tree, not simply assume it’s limited to your main island’s upgrades.
For the token types, node order, multi-choice decisions and chest system, see our Boom Beach Warships Tech Tree guide. It explains why destroying eight Engine Rooms across battles matters for earning a Warship Chest, and why that isn’t the same as winning eight matches.
Ranks, stars and Warships leaderboards
Winning Boom Beach Warships battles earns stars that contribute towards your seasonal rank. Supercell says ranking up brings rewards, and you can compare performance through four leaderboards: Global, Local, Task Force and Friends.
You can check your ranking against other players in the Global, Local, Task Force and Friends leaderboards. Supercell added an Engine Room count to Warships leaderboards in April 2026, making it easier to see what kind of ships you’re comparing.
Does Warships reset every season?
Yes, Warships is seasonal. The Tech Tree layout changes for each new season, and you start that season with two Engine Rooms. That means making new troop and defence choices for the season instead of carrying one permanent Warship build into every competition. Your normal Home Base progression is separate.
Boom Beach’s main base and its ordinary progression remain a separate part of the game. For players moving between devices, the Boom Beach PC guide covers how to use the official Windows launcher and your Supercell ID to continue playing the same account.
Boom Beach Warships beginner questions
Can I play before HQ level 10? Yes, Supercell says purchasing the Boom Pass provides access. Without that option, the regular unlock is Headquarters level 10.
What should I destroy to win? Target your opponent’s Engine Rooms. Taking out all of them before your opponent finishes yours is the clearest route to victory.
Does every battle award a Warship Chest? No. The chest progress rule counts eight destroyed Engine Rooms across battles, while another chest becomes available every eight hours. Read the Tech Tree article for the distinction.
