Black Ops Cold War Wonder Weapons are the Ray Gun, D.I.E. Shockwave, RAI K-84, CRBR-S and Chrysalax, with the last four acting as the signature Wonder Weapons for Die Maschine, Firebase Z, Mauer der Toten and Forsaken. Several of them also have elemental upgrades, conversion kits or alternate forms, which means the complete list is bigger than simply naming one gun per map.
This guide to Black Ops Cold War Wonder Weapons shows which weapon belongs to each Cold War Zombies experience, what its alternate forms do and where it can be obtained. The map-specific weapons are especially important for Main Quests because Firebase Z requires the RAI K-84, Mauer der Toten requires the CRBR-S and Forsaken requires the Chrysalax.
Black Ops Cold War Wonder Weapons: Every Weapon and Map
| Wonder Weapon | Main map | Forms or upgrades | Main Quest importance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ray Gun | Available across multiple Cold War Zombies experiences | Base Ray Gun | Powerful general Wonder Weapon, but not the signature quest weapon for the four round-based maps. |
| D.I.E. Shockwave | Die Maschine | Cryo-Emitter, NOVA-5, Thermophasic, Electrobolt | All four elemental attacks are used during the Die Maschine Main Quest. |
| RAI K-84 | Firebase Z | Primary rifle fire and alternate energy-grenade fire | The alternate fire is required to stop a moving Aetherium container during the Main Quest. |
| CRBR-S | Mauer der Toten | Base CRBR-S, Blazer, Diffuser, Swarm | The Blazer conversion is needed to melt the Secret Lab door. |
| Chrysalax | Forsaken | Chrysalax Savager melee form and Chrysalax Storm ranged form | Required to destroy the three giant Dark Aether crystals. |
Ray Gun

The Ray Gun remains the most recognizable entry among Black Ops Cold War Wonder Weapons. In Cold War it benefits heavily from Pack-a-Punch and remains a strong high-round option thanks to its explosive energy projectiles. Its exact availability differs by experience, so do not assume every map’s Mystery Box contains the same Wonder Weapon pool.
Firebase Z is the notable round-based exception where the signature RAI K-84 replaces the traditional Ray Gun role. In Outbreak, the Ray Gun can appear through high-value reward routes alongside other Wonder Weapons.
Black Ops Cold War Wonder Weapons: D.I.E. Shockwave on Die Maschine
The D.I.E. Shockwave is the first map-specific entry in Black Ops Cold War Wonder Weapons. Die Maschine gives you a guaranteed quest route after killing a Megaton and using its Keycard to obtain the D.I.E. Remote Control. Feeding zombies into the Living Room suction trap then opens the free weapon.
Its unusual reload mechanic absorbs zombie energy, while the four elemental upgrades change how the weapon attacks. The Die Maschine Main Quest makes those upgrades more than optional toys because all four are used to charge the decontamination chamber.
D.I.E. Cryo-Emitter
Cryo-Emitter turns the D.I.E. into a freezing weapon. Its quest uses the Megaton-charged fungus near Pond and a flask that collects the liquid needed to open the upgrade box.
D.I.E. NOVA-5
NOVA-5 adds toxic gas damage. You collect the gas canister, charge it with a Plaguehound near the gas station and use the completed canister to open the corresponding weapon crate.
D.I.E. Thermophasic
Thermophasic is the fire upgrade. Its route uses a Dark Aether fuse and the laser cutter before the upgrade can be collected from the Pond area.
D.I.E. Electrobolt
Electrobolt converts the D.I.E. into an electrical beam weapon. It is particularly effective against single targets and is obtained by charging the required Dark Aether crystals during its upgrade sequence.
Black Ops Cold War Wonder Weapons: RAI K-84 on Firebase Z

The RAI K-84 is one of the most distinctive Black Ops Cold War Wonder Weapons because it combines a rifle-style primary attack with an alternate energy projectile. That secondary shot creates a slowing energy field, and firing the primary mode into the field can trigger a larger explosion.
On Firebase Z, you can build the RAI K-84 through its dedicated parts quest or obtain one through Trials or the Mystery Box. The Main Quest eventually forces the issue: the alternate fire is required to stop the moving Barracks Aetherium container long enough to collect it.
Black Ops Cold War Wonder Weapons: CRBR-S on Mauer der Toten
The CRBR-S is the Berlin entry in Black Ops Cold War Wonder Weapons. Its base form is a compact automatic energy pistol with an orbiting companion that adds extra fire. A free CRBR-S can be earned through the Hotel Room 305 safe quest, while Trials and the Mystery Box offer additional routes.
Special Mod Kits transform the CRBR-S into three temporary variants: Blazer, Diffuser and Swarm. The Blazer turns it into a focused beam and is mandatory for the Main Quest because it melts the Secret Lab metal door after Klaus breaks the brick wall.
CRBR-S Blazer
Blazer provides a continuous precision beam that is ideal for sustained damage and the Secret Lab door interaction.
CRBR-S Diffuser
Diffuser shifts the CRBR-S toward close-range crowd clearing, giving it a shotgun-like role when zombies are packed together.
CRBR-S Swarm
Swarm changes the weapon into a rapid explosive configuration that is useful against groups and aggressive special enemies. Emptying the conversion kit returns the weapon to its base CRBR-S form.
Black Ops Cold War Wonder Weapons: Chrysalax on Forsaken

The Chrysalax is the final signature weapon among Black Ops Cold War Wonder Weapons, and it has two forms built into the same weapon rather than temporary drop-in conversion kits. The Chrysalax Savager is the melee axe form, while the Chrysalax Storm provides rapid-fire ranged energy attacks.
You can obtain the Chrysalax through its guaranteed crafting quest, legendary Trial rewards or the Mystery Box. During the Forsaken Main Quest, you need the ranged form to destroy the floating purple orbs around the giant Dark Aether crystals and the melee form to smash the crystals themselves.
Which Cold War Wonder Weapon Is Best for New Players?
For straightforward power, the Ray Gun is the easiest of the Black Ops Cold War Wonder Weapons to understand because there is no form management or map-specific mechanic to learn. For a full Main Quest run, however, the best weapon is usually the signature weapon tied to that map because the quest frequently requires it.
The Chrysalax is especially forgiving on Forsaken because the melee form handles close-range hordes while the ranged form covers bosses and crystal objectives. The CRBR-S is similarly flexible on Mauer because its Mod Kits let one weapon adapt to several combat roles.
Black Ops Cold War Wonder Weapons: What Is Available in Outbreak?
Outbreak expands the practical use of Black Ops Cold War Wonder Weapons by making the Ray Gun, D.I.E. and RAI K-84 available through high-value rewards such as bosses, Trials, loot and the Mystery Box. The D.I.E. elemental upgrades also appear at fixed locations across specific Outbreak regions.
CRBR-S and Chrysalax remain tied to their respective round-based experiences rather than becoming normal Outbreak drops. That distinction matters if you are moving from the four round-based maps into the two Outbreak Main Quests and expect every signature weapon to carry over.
