Modern Warfare 4 Game Pass availability has now been confirmed by Activision: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is not included with Game Pass at launch. The game releases on October 23, 2026 and requires a separate purchase, including on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC.
That is a change from the recent run of Call of Duty launches that trained Xbox and PC players to expect day-one subscription access. Activision published the clarification on October 15, just over a week before launch, so a Game Pass subscription by itself will not unlock the full MW4 game on release day.
Is Modern Warfare 4 on Game Pass?
No. Activision’s current Modern Warfare 4 Game Pass position is explicit: Modern Warfare 4 requires a separate purchase and is not available on Game Pass at launch.
The confirmation applies to the launch on October 23. Activision explicitly confirms that the game will not join Game Pass until Holiday 2027. No exact date within that window has been announced. If you want to play MW4 from day one, the confirmed route is to buy the game.
Does Game Pass Ultimate include Modern Warfare 4?
Activision does not list an exception for Game Pass Ultimate in its October 15 announcement. The Modern Warfare 4 Game Pass confirmation says the game is not available through Game Pass at launch and requires a separate purchase.
Upgrading from another Game Pass tier to Ultimate does not turn MW4 into an included launch title. Buy the Standard or Vault Edition if you want access to the full game on October 23.
Does PC Game Pass include Modern Warfare 4?
No day-one PC Game Pass access is announced either. Activision sells Modern Warfare 4 for Xbox on PC as well as Battle.net and Steam, but its launch statement still says a separate purchase is required.
So the Modern Warfare 4 Game Pass situation is the same basic answer on Xbox console and PC: owning a subscription is not a substitute for buying MW4 at launch.
Which Modern Warfare 4 editions can you buy?
Modern Warfare 4 is sold in Standard and Vault Editions. Activision’s official game page currently lists Xbox, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2 among the supported purchase platforms.
| Platform | Game Pass launch access? | Purchase available? |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series X|S | No | Yes |
| Xbox on PC | No | Yes |
| PlayStation 5 | Not applicable | Yes |
| Battle.net | Not applicable | Yes |
| Steam | Not applicable | Yes |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Not applicable | Yes |
The Standard Edition is enough to own and play the base game. The Vault Edition adds its premium launch extras, but buying the more expensive edition does not change the Modern Warfare 4 Game Pass status; both are purchases rather than subscription entitlements. For launch-day access, Modern Warfare 4 Game Pass is therefore not an alternative to either paid edition.
Why isn’t Modern Warfare 4 on Game Pass at launch?
Activision’s announcement confirms the decision but does not give a detailed business explanation for it. The company simply states that Modern Warfare 4 requires a separate purchase and will not be available through Game Pass at launch.
There is no need to infer a licensing dispute or assume the game has been removed from a previously announced Game Pass lineup. The useful confirmed information is narrower: MW4 launches as a separately purchased Call of Duty on October 23.
When will Modern Warfare 4 Game Pass arrive?
Activision now confirms a later subscription window: Holiday 2027. That means Modern Warfare 4 Game Pass is not available during the October 2026 launch or the following months. There is no specific day or confirmed week within the holiday period.
If you’re waiting for Modern Warfare 4 Game Pass, the official window is Holiday 2027. The exact launch date and subscription tiers are still to be confirmed. For October 23, the game requires a separate purchase.
What about Warzone?
Warzone remains separate from buying Modern Warfare 4. Activision’s MW4 purchase requirement applies to Modern Warfare 4 itself; it does not turn the free-to-play Warzone client into a paid Game Pass title.
MW4 weapons and progression are scheduled to integrate with Warzone during Season 1. Our Modern Warfare 4 weapons in Warzone guide covers that integration separately.
When does Modern Warfare 4 release?
Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026. The official site is already taking preorders on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PS5, Battle.net, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2.
For anyone waiting specifically on Modern Warfare 4 Game Pass, October 23 does not bring an included subscription version. Activision’s latest launch guidance is to purchase the game separately; subscription inclusion isn’t expected until Holiday 2027.
