Is Modern Warfare 4 Coming PS4 and Xbox One is a pre release question alot of people are asking. However, Modern Warfare 4 PS4 Xbox One has a definitive answer: no. Modern Warfare 4 is not being released on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. MW4 is also the clean generational break for the series. The supported list is current hardware only, and that has knock-on effects for anyone still playing Warzone or older COD releases on PS4 and Xbox One.
Modern Warfare 4 PS4 Xbox One: Why Is MW4 Skipping Last Gen?
Activision has moved Modern Warfare 4 PS4 Xbox One support off the table completely instead of offering a cross-generation package. That allows the game’s current-generation systems, including large-scale Ground War, DMZ and the native Switch 2 work, to target newer hardware without maintaining PS4/Xbox One versions.
Can PS4 Players Upgrade?
There is no PS4 edition to upgrade from. To play MW4 on PlayStation you need a PS5-compatible purchase and a PS5 console. Your Activision account can still matter for profile and cross-progression systems, but account continuity does not make the game executable on unsupported hardware.
What About Xbox One?
The same rule applies on Xbox: MW4 supports Xbox Series X|S, not Xbox One. Xbox Play Anywhere links the current Xbox and Xbox on PC versions where eligible, but Xbox One is not part of that MW4 platform set. Xbox’s own MW4 page also states that the game is not available on Xbox One.
What Happens to Warzone on Last Gen?
Warzone has a separate transition away from PS4 and Xbox One tied to the MW4 era. That change should not be confused with MW4 itself: Modern Warfare 4 PS4 Xbox One versions simply do not exist. Players staying on last-gen hardware therefore need to treat both the premium game and Warzone support as separate compatibility questions.
What to Know Before MW4 Launch
Final launch details can still arrive in stages.
Modern Warfare 4 launches into several connected but separate experiences: Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ are part of the premium game, while Warzone remains its own free-to-play service.
