Adopt Me untradeable Neon pets can be made from four fully grown copies of the same pet. Since the May 2026 update, the Neon Cave allows untradeable pets to be combined, but the resulting Neon stays untradeable. You cannot turn an untradeable reward into a tradeable pet by making it Neon or Mega Neon.
That change comes with another important rule: locked pets cannot be combined at all. You must unlock a pet first if you’ve protected it in your Backpack. Here’s how to use the Cave, understand the warning and check why an animal isn’t available for selection.
How to make Adopt Me untradeable Neon pets
Raise four matching pets to Full Grown, then visit the Neon Cave and choose those animals for the combination. If the pets are untradeable, Adopt Me warns you that the finished Neon will be untradeable too. Confirm only if you’re happy with that restriction.
The same rule applies to Mega Neon pets, which require four fully aged Neons. Adopt Me untradeable Neon pets don’t become tradeable when combined again, so this route is for enjoying the glowing appearance rather than preparing a trade.
Untradeable versus locked: what’s different?
An untradeable pet cannot be transferred to another player in a trade. A locked pet is protected from use in the Neon Cave until you unlock it. Unlocking won’t remove an untradeable status, but it can make a fully grown pet available for combination.
| Pet status | Can make Neon? | What happens? |
|---|---|---|
| Untradeable, eligible | Yes | Result remains untradeable |
| Locked | No, unlock first | Cannot be selected while locked |
| Normal Full Grown, unlocked | Yes, with matching pets | Normal trade rules |
For Adopt Me untradeable Neon pets, this is the key distinction: the untradeable warning isn’t an error message preventing a combination. The lock protection, by contrast, deliberately stops you using that pet until you decide to unlock it.

Why isn’t my pet showing in the Neon Cave?
First check that it’s fully grown. Adopt Me’s improved selection menu shows suitable, fully aged pets. You still need four matching copies of the same pet; another species with the same rarity won’t work.
Next check whether you locked the pet in the Backpack. If it’s locked, remove the protection before returning to the Cave. Adopt Me untradeable Neon pets can be combined, but the protection on a locked pet must be removed before it can be selected.
Can you trade a Mega Neon made from untradeable pets?
No. Uplift Games explicitly confirmed that combining untradeable pets produces an untradeable Neon or Mega Neon. The glowing result is yours to keep, and making it more advanced doesn’t change that restriction.
That makes Adopt Me untradeable Neon pets a collection goal rather than a way to get around trading restrictions. Check the warning before confirming because the four originals are consumed in the process.

How to prepare four matching pets
Raise each copy through its Needs or use Age-Up Potions. Pet Pens can earn XP in the background, although you need to check on pets when they finish a growth stage. Our pet age stages guide lists how many Needs each rarity requires.
Before making Adopt Me untradeable Neon pets, keep the copies you want to save locked and unlock only the ones you’re ready to combine. This prevents accidentally using a pet you wanted to keep separate.
