Adopt Me Pet Pens: How Offline Aging Works and XP Rates

Adopt Me Pet Pens with pets in a house yard

Adopt Me Pet Pens let you age up to four pets at once without actively completing their Needs. Every house has a Pet Pen in its front yard. Pets earn 800 XP per hour while you’re online and 200 XP per hour while you’re offline, making the Pens especially useful when you’re raising several pets towards Neon.

There is one important limit: pets can finish only one complete growth stage in the Pen before you need to visit them. If you leave the same animals unattended indefinitely, they won’t continue all the way to Full Grown. Here’s how the rates and growth restriction work.

Where to find Adopt Me Pet Pens

Go to the front yard of your house on Adoption Island. Uplift Games added a Pet Pen to every house with the September 12, 2025 update, so you don’t need a special house or a separately purchased furniture item. Select up to four pets to leave in the Pen and let them earn passive progress.

The Adopt Me Pet Pens keep working while you spend time on other activities, including events and minigames. They’re also designed to award reduced progress while you’re offline, so you don’t need to leave Roblox running for every point of XP.

Adopt Me Pet Pens: online and offline XP rates

These are the official Adopt Me Pet Pens rates published by Uplift Games. Each completed Need is worth 100 XP in the game’s 2025 pet-ageing update.

At the published rates, a pet earns four times as much progress per hour while you’re online as while you’re offline. These are the Pen’s passive rates, not a promise that active pet care will always progress at the same speed. Actively completing Needs can still help when you want to move a pet through its next stage.

There are four Pet Pen slots included with every house. A November 21, 2025 update added an optional fifth slot for 295 Robux, so players who buy that upgrade can age five pets instead of four. The same update introduced a Box of Toys activity inside the Pen that awards bonus XP and Bucks while you play.

Why did your pets stop ageing in the Pen?

The Adopt Me Pet Pens can complete one growth stage, but then you need to visit the pets before growth continues. For example, a pet can finish Newborn in the Pen, but it won’t keep advancing through every remaining stage indefinitely without attention.

If your pet seems stuck, return to your house and interact with the Pen. Check whether it’s ready to move into its next stage, then resume passive ageing. This is an intended restriction, not evidence that offline XP has been removed.

Can you age Neon pets or earn Friendship Levels?

Yes, Neon pets can gain age progress using Adopt Me Pet Pens. That’s useful if you’re working towards a Mega Neon pet and need to raise several Neons. The developer also explicitly states that Friendship Levels cannot be earned in Pet Pens, so don’t use the Pen when your goal is Friendship progression rather than normal ageing.

You can also keep playing with another pet while four pets gain passive XP in the yard. Pet Pens reduce the amount of repetitive care needed, but they don’t remove the requirement to revisit pets at their growth-stage boundaries.

Are Pet Pens better than active ageing?

They’re most useful when you want background growth while doing something else. If you have four pets to raise, placing all four in the Pen lets each gain progress passively. That’s a different benefit from focusing on one pet and completing its Needs yourself for faster immediate results.

If you’re building a Neon collection, use the Adopt Me Pet Pens to keep other pets progressing while you actively raise one. Check the Pen between activities so pets that have completed a stage can carry on earning XP instead of waiting unattended.

Do Pet Pens work when you’re logged out?

Yes. Uplift Games specifies two Needs, or 200 XP, per offline hour. The Adopt Me Pet Pens don’t give the same online rate while you’re away, and the one-stage limit still applies. Returning periodically to progress any waiting pets is more useful than leaving them for days and expecting every growth stage to finish automatically.

The Pet Pen update also revised the game’s pet-ageing requirements. The official chart above shows how many completed Needs different rarities require. Those rarity differences explain why higher-rarity pets take more care to reach Full Grown, even when they’re gaining the same Pen XP per hour.
