ACE COMBAT 8 Characters are split between Joker Flight and the people keeping the aging carrier Endurance operating while the Federation of Central Usea fights back against Sotoa. Bandai Namco’s official roster profiles Jan Cope, Ellington Baxter, Tasha Severskaya, William Coster, Kate Evans, Jessica Pike, David Jenkins and Adelina Santos, while the campaign places the player in the cockpit as REX after Cope’s death.
The ACE COMBAT 8 Characters roster is useful because the campaign is more personal than simply hearing anonymous radio voices between dogfights. Jan Cope is the original manufactured ace behind the Wings of Theve legend, and REX inherits that mantle after Cope is killed in a scouting-flight crash. The surviving Joker Flight pilots and Endurance crew then give the first-person carrier scenes much more context.
ACE COMBAT 8 Characters: Joker Flight
Jan Cope, the original Wings of Theve
Jan Cope is the original commander-rank leader of Joker Flight and the pilot chosen for the FCU’s manufactured ace project. He carries the sign Wings of Theve as a morale symbol tied to the fallen capital, but the launch story makes an important distinction: Cope is killed in a crash during a routine scouting mission, and the player pilot REX is subsequently ordered to inherit the Wings of Theve mantle. Bandai’s character roster describes Cope as an exceptional evasive pilot who was sociable, well liked and notorious for gambling and unpaid debts.
REX, the player pilot
Among the ACE COMBAT 8 Characters, REX is the unknown pilot controlled by the player after the original Wings of Theve is lost. The FCU needs the legend to survive even when the man behind it does not, so REX takes on the callsign and becomes the new symbol around which the counterattack is built. That makes the campaign’s central identity deliberately inherited: the public legend is Wings of Theve, while the person flying under it changes.
Ellington Baxter, Professor
Ellington Baxter is a Lieutenant Commander and Joker Flight’s number two. He is the steady, knowledgeable presence in the squad and previously worked as a university lecturer, although the subject he taught has not been revealed. Tasha calls him Teach, and the official character material places the two together studying in the mess.
Tasha Severskaya
Tasha is an Ensign and Joker Flight No. 3. Before the war she was a star pilot with Yuktobania’s Zvezda aerobatic team. She happened to be aboard the Endurance to shoot publicity footage when the conflict erupted and remained with the carrier, turning a civilian publicity assignment into an active combat role.
William Coster, Noise
William Coster is a Lieutenant Junior Grade and Joker Flight No. 4. He is presented as the wingman capable of keeping pace with Tasha’s extreme manoeuvres while providing effective cover. His personality detail is music: Coster is a dedicated rock fan and even takes a compact music player into the cockpit.
ACE COMBAT 8 Characters: the Endurance crew
Kate Evans, Little Bee
Kate Evans is a Lieutenant Commander and leader of Queen Flight, the carrier’s other flight unit. Bandai describes her as calm, capable and fiercely protective of pilots in both flights. The bandages she continually wears underline how hard the fighting has been even though she tries to project a positive attitude to the people under her command.
Jessica Pike
Jessica Pike is the Endurance’s executive officer and a Military Captain. She runs carrier operations in place of the more easygoing Captain Gordon and is strongly pragmatic, including recruiting civilians when personnel shortages made that necessary. That places her on the operational side of the story rather than in Joker Flight’s cockpit drama.
David Jenkins
David Jenkins is a Major and the Endurance’s chief mechanic. He previously served as an Air Force maintenance officer and was rescued from a lifeboat after retreating west as the front collapsed. His frontline experience gives him unusually useful knowledge of Sotoan capabilities, which helps explain why his maintenance role carries strategic weight.
Adelina Santos
Adelina Santos is the carrier’s Medical Tech Officer and a strong-willed doctor who is willing to challenge senior officers over the treatment of wounded crew. Bandai’s roster describes her as caring and popular with the crew, even if she does not appear to recognise how well liked she is.
How the ACE COMBAT 8 Characters connect to squadron commands
ACE COMBAT 8 Characters in Joker Flight are not just a story roster. After REX inherits the squadron lead, Baxter, Tasha and Coster are the wingmen responding to the player’s tactical orders in ACE COMBAT 8 Squadron Commands. The campaign lets you tell the squad to concentrate on a target, divide its attacks, cover you or use special weapons, so understanding the squad’s roles helps the story and the combat systems line up.
The ACE COMBAT 8 Characters also sit inside the broader campaign setup covered in our campaign story guide: the FCU has lost its capital, the Endurance is carrying military personnel and refugees, and the invented Wings of Theve legend is being turned into a real battlefield symbol by the player.
Why the ACE COMBAT 8 Characters roster is worth knowing
ACE COMBAT has always used radio chatter and squadron identity to make missions feel larger than a target list, but Wings of Theve pushes more of that relationship-building into first-person scenes aboard the Endurance. Knowing the ACE COMBAT 8 Characters Baxter, Tasha, Coster, Evans, Pike, Jenkins and Santos makes those scenes easier to follow and gives context to who is making decisions when the carrier is under pressure.
The current ACE COMBAT 8 Characters ACE COMBAT 8 Characters roster gives the campaign a compact core rather than dozens of thinly sketched names. Joker Flight handles the aerial side of the war, while the Endurance crew shows what it takes to keep the surviving FCU force moving, repaired and alive between sorties.
