Metaphor ReFantazio Switch 2 editions cover physical Standard, digital Standard and the Atlus 35th Digital Anniversary Edition. All launch on 12 November 2026, but the physical release is a game-key card, while the Anniversary Edition adds digital art, music and eight costume sets.
If you’re buying the game for Switch 2, Standard gives you the full adventure. The Anniversary bundle adds costumes, art and music, with access to a 55-page strategy guide too. Nintendo’s US store also lists a smaller Guidebook Edition, so it’s worth checking the actual contents rather than buying by name alone.
Metaphor ReFantazio Switch 2 editions: what’s included?

| Edition | Contents |
|---|---|
| Physical Standard | Full base game via a game-key card requiring a download |
| Digital Standard | Downloadable base game |
| Atlus 35th Digital Anniversary | Base game, artbook, history book, two soundtracks, eight costume/BGM sets and the 55-page digital guide entitlement |
| Anniversary Upgrade | Anniversary extras only, without the base game |
| US Guidebook Edition | Base game, 55-page English digital guide, artbook, soundtrack, Shujin Academy and Jouin High costume/BGM sets |
These Metaphor ReFantazio Switch 2 editions are not interchangeable. The full Anniversary bundle includes the game; the Upgrade does not. The Guidebook package includes two costume sets rather than the Anniversary bundle’s eight. Both premium editions offer the Essential Digital Strategy Guide, according to Nintendo’s own guide listing.
Physical Standard or digital Standard?
Both offer the full RPG, with no separate story campaign exclusive to the physical box. However, ATLUS confirms that the physical Switch 2 edition uses only game-key cards. There’s no complete game stored on that card.
To play the physical version, insert the card and download the game using an internet connection and sufficient storage. Once installed, it can run offline, but the game-key card still needs to be inserted. The digital Standard edition is bought and downloaded through the eShop instead. Our physical game cards guide explains the difference in more detail.

What does the ATLUS 35th Anniversary Edition add?
The full digital Anniversary Edition includes the base game, a digital artbook, the game’s digital soundtrack, the Atlus 35th Digital History Book and the Atlus 35th Digital All-Time Best Soundtrack, featuring six ATLUS Sound Team arrangements. Nintendo also lists the 55-page Essential Digital Strategy Guide as available free to owners of this edition.
There are also eight Costume & Battle BGM sets, inspired by other ATLUS series. They are Shujin Academy, Yasogami High School, Gekkoukan High School, Seven Sisters, St. Hermelin High School, Jouin High School, Samurai Garb and Etrian Odyssey class costumes.
The sets give your party themed outfits and battle music. They don’t replace the main adventure. ATLUS says its digital soundtrack apps are self-contained: their tracks cannot be exported as MP3 files. If you want music files to keep outside the app, that isn’t what this edition provides.

Does the Anniversary Upgrade include the game?
No. The Upgrade offers the Anniversary content without the base game. It’s intended for someone who already owns the compatible Switch 2 game. Don’t confuse the separate upgrade purchase with the complete Anniversary Edition, which does include the game.
For Metaphor ReFantazio Switch 2 editions, don’t assume a PlayStation, Xbox or PC purchase provides a Switch 2 upgrade entitlement. Check the Nintendo eShop product tied to the account you’re using before buying.
Metaphor ReFantazio Switch 2 editions: what about the Guidebook Edition?
Nintendo’s US store lists the Guidebook Edition with the base game, digital artbook, digital soundtrack, an English-language 55-page Essential Digital Strategy Guide and two costume/BGM sets: Shujin Academy from Persona 5 and Jouin High School from Shin Megami Tensei V. It doesn’t include all eight sets from the Anniversary edition.
The guide is a condensed version of Future Press’s printed strategy book, with a walkthrough of the first story arc and a suggested schedule for later progression. It’s not exclusive to Guidebook buyers: Nintendo UK also says Anniversary Edition owners can access it free. Check the UK store for the bundle you can actually buy and its price.
Which edition should you buy?
Choose Standard for the game alone, either as a download or boxed game-key card. Choose Anniversary if you want all eight costume/music sets, the art and music collections and the digital guide. The US Guidebook bundle offers fewer costume sets and the same digital guide. Already own the Switch 2 game? Check the Upgrade instead of buying it again.
All the main Metaphor ReFantazio Switch 2 editions are connected to the 12 November release. The separate preorder bonuses guide covers the consumable item packs and regional deadlines. Those rewards don’t replace the permanent edition extras.
