The Fortnite Ballistic removal happened on 16 April 2026, when Epic Games shut down its official first-person shooter playlist. If you have opened Fortnite and found that Ballistic has disappeared, there is nothing wrong with your installation. The mode has been retired, including its competitive matches.
It is a loss for anyone who enjoyed the five-versus-five tactical rounds. Ballistic was built around attackers planting a Rift Point Device while defenders tried to stop them, with weapon purchases between rounds and Ranked and Unranked play. You cannot queue for that original experience anymore, but there are creator-made first-person islands worth trying.
Why Did the Fortnite Ballistic Removal Happen?

Epic confirmed the closure in its Fortnite support documentation. The company gives the date of the shutdown but does not provide a specific reason for retiring the mode. That means claims about low player numbers, development costs or a technical problem causing the decision are not established by Epic’s announcement.
What Epic has confirmed is clear: the Fortnite Ballistic removal was a deliberate retirement, not an outage. Switching matchmaking regions, checking for updates or reinstalling Fortnite will not make the missing playlist return.
Can You Still Play Ranked or Unranked Ballistic?
No. Both versions belonged to Epic’s official Ballistic experience, which is now unavailable. The game’s Epic Games Store listing also shows the experience as unavailable, even though the old listing and earlier announcements can still be found online.
The Fortnite Ballistic removal also means there is no official Ranked Ballistic queue in which to continue climbing the ladder. Creator-made islands can have their own scoring or rank systems, but those are separate from the original Epic playlist. They do not restore your old Ballistic rank, the original matchmaking pool or Epic’s official map rotation.
That distinction matters because several creator islands use the word “Ballistic” in their titles. They may borrow its plant-and-defuse format, but the name alone does not make them the discontinued Epic mode.
How to Find First-Person Maps After the Fortnite Ballistic Removal
Epic has kept first-person creation tools available in Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). The First Person Camera device gives island creators a way to build shooters and other games around a first-person view. That is why FPS-style experiences can still exist in Fortnite even though its official tactical mode is gone.
- Launch Fortnite and open Discover, then switch to Search.
- Type first person, FPS or search and destroy, or enter a specific island code.
- Check the island description for team size, whether the mode is first-person and how its rounds work.
- Choose the island and start playing. If the first one is not to your taste, try another; each creator sets their own rules.
For players looking for something close to the lost playlist after the Fortnite Ballistic removal, these creator islands have listings on Fortnite’s official website. Their descriptions are supplied by their creators, rather than being an endorsement or guarantee from Epic.
| Creator island | Island code | What its listing describes |
|---|---|---|
| Ballistic Chapter 4 by asteriastudios | 9005-8092-2748 | First-person 5v5, Rift Point Device, buy phases and seven-round victory |
| Dusty: FPS Ballistic by redcubex | 5163-5503-4515 | 5v5 plant-and-defuse gameplay, a weapon shop, team swaps and a custom map |
| Neon City First Person Search & Destroy by bazsko | 1435-9622-1274 | Five-versus-five first-person Search and Destroy |
| Operation Boom by h2ok | 1258-3971-9999 | First-person Search and Destroy for two to eight players, with revives |
You can paste any of those codes into Fortnite’s Search screen. They are individual creator experiences, not a way to reopen Epic’s servers. Their matchmaking, maps, weapons and availability can differ from Ballistic, and a creator’s own ranking system is not an official Ranked Ballistic ladder.
Why Is Ballistic Missing When Other Fortnite Modes Work?
Fortnite has not been shut down. Battle Royale and other experiences are separate from the retired Ballistic playlist. If those load normally but Ballistic is absent from Discover or your favourites, the Fortnite Ballistic removal explains the difference.
An older shortcut or Epic Games Store page does not override the retirement. If a different island gives you a matchmaking error, troubleshoot that island on its own. The fix for a working island’s connection problem is not a fix for a permanently removed game mode.
Were Rocket Racing and Festival Battle Stage Removed Too?
Yes, though the shutdowns affected different experiences. The Fortnite Ballistic removal took place on the same day as the closure of Festival Battle Stage, while Rocket Racing lasted until October.
| Experience | Date removed | What players can still access |
|---|---|---|
| Fortnite Ballistic | 16 April 2026 | Creator-made first-person islands and FPS tools in UEFN |
| Fortnite Festival Battle Stage | 16 April 2026 | Fortnite Festival Main Stage and Jam Stage |
| Rocket Racing | 1 October 2026 | Existing customised cars in Fortnite’s Vehicle Locker |
Festival Main Stage and Jam Stage were not removed along with Battle Stage. Rocket Racing’s retirement was more disruptive for its creators: Epic also unpublished islands made with Rocket Racing templates. Those islands are no longer playable, but players kept their customised vehicles in Fortnite.
Is Fortnite Ballistic Coming Back?
There is no announced return date for Epic’s official Ballistic playlist. First-person tools staying in UEFN allow different shooters to be made, but that is not an announcement of a replacement by Epic.
For now, the Fortnite Ballistic removal is final as far as the original mode is concerned. If what you miss most is its first-person combat and plant-and-defuse rounds, search the creator islands above. You will be playing something different, but you can still find the type of tactical gunplay that made Ballistic appealing.
