Why Is Fortnite Festival Battle Stage Gone? Is Festival Shutting Down?

Fortnite Festival Battle Stage gone from your Play menu? Epic took the competitive mode offline on 16 April 2026 with update v40.20. It’s been removed for everyone, so this isn’t a problem with your account, console or matchmaking region.

That doesn’t mean Fortnite Festival has shut down. Main Stage and Jam Stage are still there, including songs, instruments and Jam Tracks. It’s the 16-player knockout competition that’s gone.

Why is Fortnite Festival Battle Stage gone?

Battle Stage was Festival’s competitive playlist. Up to 16 players went through four songs, with the lowest scorers knocked out after each round. You could also use attacks to disrupt an opponent’s performance. That combination of rhythm game and elimination match made it quite different from Main Stage.

Epic retired the playlist when v40.20 arrived. If you haven’t opened Festival for a while, that’s why Battle Stage has vanished from Discover. There’s no alternative Battle Stage queue hidden in a different menu.

Is Fortnite Festival shutting down?

No. Epic says it is continuing to develop Festival Main Stage, Jam Stage and the music features available throughout Fortnite. Removing Battle Stage didn’t remove the rest of the game.

Main Stage lets you pick an instrument and difficulty, perform a setlist by yourself or with friends, and chase higher scores. Jam Stage is for making music together with Jam Loops, combining parts from songs and changing how they sound.

Neither is a direct replacement for the old elimination tournament. Main Stage is the closer choice if you enjoyed playing notes, improving your score and performing with a group.

How to find Festival Main Stage and Jam Stage

Open Fortnite, go to the Play screen and either search or browse Discover. Select Festival Main Stage or Festival Jam Stage by Epic Games, then ready up.

For Main Stage, choose your instrument and setlist when you enter. For Jam Stage, check the Jam Tracks in your Locker if you want to bring music into the session. Both experiences are free to enter; you don’t need to buy the Music Pass.

Fortnite Festival Battle Stage gone on PS5, Xbox and PC?

No. Reinstalling, verifying files, switching matchmaking regions or restarting your console won’t restore a playlist Epic has taken offline. The closure applies across supported platforms, not just one version of Fortnite.

A missing Battle Stage button in Discover is expected after the retirement. Trouble connecting to Main Stage or Jam Stage is a separate issue. For those problems, check Fortnite’s live service status and make sure the game is updated.

What happened to Ballistic and Rocket Racing?

Epic also retired Fortnite Ballistic on 16 April 2026. Rocket Racing closed on 1 October 2026. Both have their own guides, and both were individual mode retirements rather than the end of Fortnite.

If you played more than one of these modes, read our Ballistic removal and Rocket Racing shutdown guides for the differences, including what happens to first-person creator tools and Rocket Racing islands.

What happened to Festival songs and Music Pass rewards?

Your wider Fortnite music experience continues. Festival Main Stage and Jam Stage are still supported, and the Fortnite Neon Dreams Music Pass offers Lil Tecca-themed rewards. You can advance that pass by earning eligible XP in modes such as Battle Royale, rather than playing Festival exclusively.

If you’re looking for the competitive knockout matches, though, Main Stage doesn’t recreate those four elimination rounds. It’s the old Battle Stage format itself that has ended.
