Pokémon GO Mega Halloween Cup Eligible Mega Pokémon need to meet both the type restrictions and the 1,500 CP limit. Mega Evolution is allowed in the October 27 cup, but a Pokémon doesn’t automatically qualify just because it can Mega Evolve. It must have Bug, Poison, Ghost, Dark or Fairy typing, and its effective battle CP must fit Great League.
Competitive rankings feature Mega Sableye, Mega Greninja, Mega Mawile and Mega Houndoom. Each has an allowed type, but whether your own Pokémon can enter still depends on the cup’s CP rules. Here’s how to check the eligible forms without wasting Mega Energy.
Rules for Pokémon GO Mega Halloween Cup Eligible Mega Pokémon
Pokémon GO officially calls this the Mega Halloween Cup: Great League Edition. Mega-Evolved Pokémon can enter, but only at 1,500 CP or below. A Pokémon only needs one matching type; a Water/Dark Pokémon qualifies through Dark, just as a Steel/Fairy Pokémon qualifies through Fairy.
| Rule | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Maximum CP | 1,500 |
| Allowed types | Bug, Poison, Ghost, Dark, Fairy |
| Mega Pokémon | Allowed if the form and its battle CP qualify |
| Dates | October 27 to November 3, 2026 |
That means a Mega with only Water and Grass typing wouldn’t fit, regardless of CP. The Pokémon GO Mega Halloween Cup Eligible Mega Pokémon list can even include a form whose normal version lacks the right type: Mega Altaria gains Fairy typing, while ordinary Altaria is Dragon/Flying. The CP requirement still applies. Mega Houndoom’s Dark typing meets the type rule, but its battle CP might still prevent selection. Check both, not just the coloured type badges on the summary screen.

Pokémon GO Mega Halloween Cup Eligible Mega Pokémon: examples by type
These Mega forms each have at least one qualifying type. Competitive rankings include Sableye, Greninja, Mawile and Houndoom. Being on this list is a reason to check your Pokémon, not proof that its current CP is eligible. This is a list of forms to test in the battle selector, not a promise that every powered-up specimen is under 1,500 CP.
| Mega form | Eligible type | CP check |
|---|---|---|
| Mega Sableye | Dark/Ghost | Check battle CP |
| Mega Mawile | Fairy | Check battle CP |
| Mega Greninja | Dark | Check battle CP |
| Mega Gengar | Ghost/Poison | Check battle CP |
| Mega Houndoom | Dark | Check battle CP |
Mega Sableye is a natural Halloween fit through both Dark and Ghost. Mega Mawile qualifies by Fairy despite its Steel secondary typing. Mega Greninja qualifies by Dark despite its Water primary type. For Pokémon GO Mega Halloween Cup Eligible Mega Pokémon, what matters next is whether your individual Mega form can actually be selected at the cup’s CP limit.
Why Pokémon GO Mega Halloween Cup Eligible Mega Pokémon can be blocked after Mega Evolution
Mega Evolution can change a Pokémon’s stats and CP. A Pokémon’s displayed CP can change when it Mega Evolves, so check the CP applied when you select it for this specific cup. Powering it up won’t help, because CP increases can’t be reversed.
Niantic has announced temporary CP adjustment for Great League: Mega Edition and Ultra League: Mega Edition, but its announcement doesn’t spell out how that works for Mega Halloween Cup. Use the live team selector rather than assuming an over-limit Mega will automatically be scaled down.

How to check Pokémon GO Mega Halloween Cup Eligible Mega Pokémon in-game
Open GO Battle League, choose the Mega Halloween Cup and start selecting your three team members. Look for the Pokémon you intend to Mega Evolve and check its current eligibility. If the Mega form disappears, check the CP and the form’s typing. Some Megas gain or lose a secondary type after evolving.
Don’t power up a candidate just to fix a missing eligibility entry. That can push it further beyond Great League limits. Save Mega Energy until you’ve confirmed the particular Pokémon you own is useful for this cup.
Best teams using Pokémon GO Mega Halloween Cup Eligible Mega Pokémon
Mega Sableye brings Dark/Ghost coverage, Mega Mawile adds Fairy typing, Mega Greninja is Water/Dark, and Mega Houndoom is Fire/Dark. Build around your other two team members and the opponents you’re likely to face. A legal Pokémon isn’t automatically the strongest choice. Match it with two teammates that cover its weaknesses rather than picking three names from a ranking in isolation.
For actual lineups, movesets and non-Mega options, see our Mega Halloween Cup Best Teams guide. This page is about the eligibility rules and why your Mega may not appear when building a party.
Pokémon GO Mega Halloween Cup Eligible Mega Pokémon dates and missing cup fixes
The cup begins with the GO Battle League rotation on October 27 and runs through November 3, following the Pacific-time league schedule rather than the local 10 AM Halloween event start. If you cannot select the cup, check the league rotation first.
Four-times Stardust applies to battle win rewards, not the end-of-set rewards. Mega Sableye’s Super Max upgrade is announced for Halloween Part II beginning November 1, but it doesn’t change the cup’s Bug, Poison, Ghost, Dark and Fairy restriction.
For Pokémon GO Mega Halloween Cup Eligible Mega Pokémon, always check the current Mega form and battle CP in your own account. A type match is necessary, but it is not enough on its own.
